Samsung Galaxy S8 – Android Oreo release date BOOST, but there’s a catch

Samsung Galaxy S8 owners are inching closer and closer to the Android Oreo 8.0 release date, with the beta for the big update finishing last week.

The Android Oreo update will bring a host of great features to the Samsung Galaxy S8, including battery saving improvements and better notifications.

Since early November, Samsung has regularly pushed beta updates to Galaxy S8 owners to road-test new features and squash any bugs ahead of the roll-out.

And as the Android Oreo update release date for the Galaxy S8 draws near, Samsung fans have been given a big boost.

Those who took part in the Galaxy S8 beta testing for Android Oreo will get the update a day before the general rollout.

The news was revealed in a ‘beta notices’ bulletin sent to registered Samsung Galaxy S8 testers for the Android Oreo update, GSMArena revealed.

The update will also bring with it the new Samsung Experience 9.0 under Android Oreo.

In the note, Samsung said: “A big THANK YOU to you all for your overwhelming response to the Samsung Experience 9.0 Beta.

“We are doing our best to distribute the official S/W version.

“We will distribute the official S/W version to beta testers 1 day earlier.

“After updating to the official S/W version, you will no longer be able to view your VOCs in the Beta mode, such as Beta feedback and Beta community.

“Thanks for all your support during this time.”

While beta testers will be boosted by this early Android Oreo release, the highly anticipated patch still doesn’t have an official launch date.

It had been rumoured that Samsung would release the Android Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 before the end of last month.

But that came and past without a release, however – now that the beta scheme is done and dusted a proper launch surely isn’t far off.

It’s worth noting – just because the beta has finished it does not mean previously launched beta builds will no longer work.

If you’re running beta software on your Galaxy S8, this will continue to work as normal.

The news comes after it was revealed a surprise phone is getting the Android Oreo update next.

Besides the Galaxy S8 and Note 8, big name smartphones like the OnePlus 5T are still waiting for the big Google OS patch.

And ahead of these smartphones getting Oreo, another rival Android device will be getting the 8.0 update first.

Right now Android Oreo is rolling out to Huawei Mate 9 users in the US.

The Android Oreo update will bring persistent notifications, adaptive icons, picture-in-picture mode and more to Huawei Mate 9 users.

It will also bring the January 2018 Android security patch and EMUI 8.0, which is the latest version of Huawei’s software skin.

A changelog for the Android Oreo patch has not been released yet, but it should be for the MHA-L29 and L09 models of the Huawei Mate 9.

The update will also bring Project Treble to the Mate 9.

This is a major re-architecture for the Android OS framework which should make updates get rolled out faster and easier in the future.
