Kingdom Hearts 3 release date news: New PS4 and Xbox One reveal coming soon?

Still considered one of the most hotly anticipated launches of 2018, fans have had to wait a long time for Kingdom Hearts 3 news.

Square Enix first announced the project in 2013 and have had to delay its launch on multiple occasions.

Now it appears that the Kingdom Hearts 3 release date will be announced for 2018.

There have been no hints that Square Enix plan to delay their big project any further, having confirmed that they hoped to see it hit shelves this year.

So when can fans expect an announcement to be made?

According to an online source, the popular Square Enix franchise will be launched in the fiscal third-quarter of this year.

This still provides a pretty wide range of dates to choose from, meaning that the game could launch as soon as July, or as late as September.

The same rumours also suggest that Square Enix will officially announce the new Kingdom Hearts 3 release date in February.

Something similar happened with the launch of Final Fantasy 15, although that was eventually delayed and pushed back to another month.

This new information does not come from an official source and should therefore be taken with a big pinch of salt.

If information does fail to surface in February, the next possible stop is April 2018, which is when a Kingdom Hearts Union X fan event is being held.

While this isn’t directly connected to the PS4 and Xbox One console launch, Tetsuya Nomura, the director of Kingdom Hearts 3, is now confirmed to be attending the event.

The event is being held at the House of Blues in Anaheim, on April 15, and will feature talking about the development of the popular free-to-play mobile game.

Nomura will also be joined by Kingdom Hearts producer Hironori Okayama, so it’s entirely possible we could get some kind of news on KH3.

This is in no way guaranteed, however, it’s one of the best things fans have got to go on right now, as Square Enix remain tight lipped about KH3 for consoles.

Even if we do find out the release date for Kingdom Hearts 3 this month, another big announcement could be made during the Union X event, connected to gameplay.

Even though news is still very thin on the ground, fans are still desperate to find out more about Square Enix’s next big gaming launches.

This was recently highlighted in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu’s most highly anticipated games chart.

And the voting clearly shows that hunger for both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 news is still very much alive.

While neither title grabbed the topspot, they did still manage to reach the top 5, which isn’t bad for two games still without solid release dates.

The Famitsu Top Five chart includes:

  • Monster Hunter World – 1,357 votes
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake – 1,036 votes
  • Hokuto ga Gotoku – 660 votes
  • Kingdom Hearts III – 636 votes
  • Dynasty Warriors 9 – 548 votes
