State of the Union speech IN FULL: Watch President Donald Trump’s Congress address

President delivered his first State of the Union (SOTU) address last night presenting a political and economic report of the last year. 

The State of the Union address is an annual speech given by the sitting President, and Mr Trump spoke about new politics on North Korea, immigration and boosting the economy.

During the highly anticipated address in Congress, the President reinforced his message to make “America great again” and the pursuit of the “American Dream”.

Speaking in Congress, President Donald Trump said: “The people dreamed this country. The people built this country. And it is the people who are making America great again.

“As long as we have confidence in our values, faith in our citizens, and trust in our God, we will not fail. 

“Our families will thrive. Our people will prosper. And our Nation will forever be safe and strong and proud and mighty and free.” 

The President also said the US would not repeat the same mistakes made by “past administrations” over the handling of North Korea. 

Mr Trump claimed that mistakes had placed the US in a very “dangerous position”. 

The US President called for Congress to pass an infrastructure bill. The comments were met with applause. 

He also said: “Together, we are rediscovering the American way.

“So to every citizen watching at home tonight—no matter where you have been, or where you come from, this is your time.”

The President claimed the US would continue its work and its fight against ISIS. 

“Last year, I also pledged that we would work with our allies to extinguish ISIS from the face of the Earth,” he said. “We will continue our fight until ISIS is defeated.”
