Android Oreo update – This surprise phone will be getting the big Google patch next

Android Oreo is still yet to arrive on the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8 and OnePlus 5T despite being released by Google last August.

The Galaxy S8 and Note 8 has seen the Android Oreo beta period recently finish, while OnePlus 5T owners can get the 8.0 patch in beta right now.

However, ahead of these smartphones another rival Android device will be getting the Oreo 8.0 update first.

Right now Android Oreo is rolling out to Huawei Mate 9 users in the US, Droid Life reported.

The Android Oreo update will bring persistent notifications, adaptive icons, picture-in-picture mode and more to Huawei Mate 9 users.

It will also bring the January 2018 Android security patch and EMUI 8.0, which is the latest version of Huawei’s software skin.

A changelog for the Android Oreo patch has not been released yet, but it should be for the MHA-L29 and L09 models of the Huawei Mate 9.

The update will also bring Project Treble to the Mate 9.

This is a major re-architecture for the Android OS framework which should make updates get rolled out faster and easier in the future.

The news comes after Samsung announced the end of its Android 8.0 Oreo beta scheme, which suggests a free upgrade for S8 users is just round the corner.

Samsung Galaxy S8 owners are no longer able to sign-up to the Android 8.0 Oreo beta programme.

Those who want to take advantage of the new features – battery saving improvements, better notifications – will have to wait for the final update.

The South Korean company brought the Android 8.0 beta scheme to an end on January 26, some three months after it launched.

Since early November, Samsung has regularly pushed beta updates to Galaxy S8 owners to road-test new features and squash any troublesome bugs ahead of the worldwide roll-out.

Those who have helped to test the beta software have received the following message from Samsung.

It reads: “A big THANK YOU for your overwhelming response to the Samsung Experience 9.0 Beta.

“Your feedback about performance, reliability and usability has helped us to release more reliable, better performing software and provide an improved user experience to Samsung users.”

It’s worth noting – this does not mean previously launched Android Oreo beta builds will no longer work.

If you’re running beta software on your Galaxy S8, this will continue to work as normal.

The next Android 8.0 Oreo update will be the final update and will be available to all Galaxy S8 owners, not only those enrolled in the beta scheme.
