Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal: How Chelsea and Tottenham hold the cards

Arsenal have held talks with Borussia Dortmund and agreed a contract with Aubameyang, but the deal hinges on the German club landing a replacement.

But what do we know so far?

Aubameyang is keen to move

The Gabon striker is keen to leave Dortmund after a number of run-ins with fans and senior board members.

He has agreed terms on a £180,000 a week deal and will become Arsenal’s highest-ever paid player.

Wenger wants him in

Arsene Wenger has been coy on the interest but we know he wants to make Aubameyang his big January signing.

Arsenal have agreed Aubameyang contract

The deal is in place for Aubameyang to become Arsenal’s highest-paid player.

He will overtake both Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on £180,000 a week.

Dortmund will sell if the price is right

Michael Zorc has made it clear they must get their full valuation for Dortmund.

They have been holding out for around £60m and appear to have finally been given the right message from Arsenal.

But only if they get a replacement…

Borussia Dortmund are holding out on sanctioning Aubameyang’s move until the have a replacement in.

They did want Olivier Giroud to come the other way but are now looking at Michy Batshuayi and Anthony Modeste.

What could happen?

Well it’s all bit confusing but basically it’s now out of Arsenal’s hands.

Their bid will be accepted if Dortmund get a replacement.

So if:

Giroud can be convinced to go to Dortmund – Arsenal will get Aubameyang

Arsenal sell Giroud to Chelsea, and Michy Batshuayi goes to Dortmund – Arsenal will get Aubameyang

Chelsea sign Fernando Llorente and Michy Batshauyi goes to Dortmund – Arsenal will get Aubameyang

Dortmund sign Anthony Modeste – Arsenal will get Aubameyang

Arsenal legends are getting worried

Ian Wright said: “I’m really nervous because I really want that to happen.

“Inadvertently Arsenal would have done good business by doing terrible business in the first place.

“They would have fallen on their feet, I’m so excited by that.”

And Paul Marriner believes the fans will be delighted with the deal.

“I think most Arsenal fans would be very, very happy with the forward-line situation (if they signed Aubameyang),” he told ESPN FC.

“There is still the dark cloud that is (Mesut) Ozil but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

“(It would be) very concerning (if they don’t get Aubameyang). I’ve said it for weeks and weeks and weeks.

“I think it’s imperative that they get something for (Alexandre) Lacazette to feed off, he needs service in the box.

“If you’re going to bring Aubameyang in and you’ve got Mkhitaryan in, get Mkhitaryan in the right position.

“Is that the right position in the No 10? Is Ozil going to play in the No 10?

“So there’s all these things that (Arsene) Wenger has got to work out.

“There are very concerning spaces in that team for me before we think Arsenal are going to get back on track.”
