Galaxy S9 price may have leaked ahead of launch and it’s NOT good news

The will be shown to the world in less than a month.

recently confirmed a launch date for its new flagship with the company’s Unpacked event taking place at Mobile World Congress on Sunday February 25.

This new device is expected to offer a number of improvements over the current Galaxy S8 with rumours suggesting the phone will be faster, more powerful and offer the ultimate camera.

Samsung is clearly going to make a big deal about the S9’s photographic capabilities with a recent invite saying: “On February 25, Samsung Electronics will showcase the next generation of Galaxy devices that reimagines the camera and redefines the way you share your moments.”

Although it’s not thought the S9 is getting a any major design changes there is one improvement which is sure to be welcomed by users.

Images, that have appeared online, appear to show a new position for the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner which has been moved to centre of the device just below the camera.

The Galaxy S8 came under huge criticism for this sensor being too near the lens which could often mean users placing their mucky fingers on camera.

One final piece of good news is the likelihood that the S9 will be able to fast charge with it going from flat to 50 per cent in around 15 minutes.

These features will, no doubt, make the Galaxy S9 the phone to beat in 2018 but they may come at a high price.

According to Etnews the Galaxy S9 will be far more expensive than it’s predecessor.

Speaking to the Korean website an official at a local mobile network revealed: “Although the domestic price of the Galaxy S9 will increase, it will be decided at a level where consumers do not feel burdened.”

It’s rumoured that the price of the Galaxy S9 in Korea will be between W950,000 and W999,000 – the S8 was W935,000.

At the higher of the two speculative prices it would add around £50 more to the cost of the handset.

The S8 will currently set you back £689 SIM-only so this could mean the S9 will push through the £700 barrier.

There’s no official word on costs and we won’t know a UK price until February, but if you were hoping for a bargain the S9 won’t be it.

Luckily, Samsung has already announced its Galaxy A8 device which will launch in April and looks set to bring flagship specs at a much lower price.

Official costs for this device could also be revealed at Mobile World Congress and, if these are to be believed, it might be one to watch out for.

Express.co.uk will be in Barcelona and will bring you all the news live as it happens.
