Google Maps’ new update promises to save iPhone users’ time

Google Maps was update last night for iPhone owners, bringing new functionality that promises to save you time.

The hugely-popular navigation software has been updated to version 4.44 and is now available to download via the Apple App Store.

The latest update brings the ability to add additional shortcuts to the Travel Times widget.

Google first introduced this nifty feature following the launch of iOS 10.

The useful widget lives on the lock screen of your iPhone or iPad and gives you an at-a-glance estimate of how long it will get you to reach a pre-set destination.

Until now, the Travel Times widget has been limited to two destinations, by default labelled as Home and Work.

However the new update allows iPhone and iPad owners to add a number of custom destinations.

You can now pick an address and create your own label (chess club, latin dance class) or choose from some pre-set suggestions (school, gym).

Google will then keep an estimate of how long it will take you to reach your chosen destination updated in the Widget screen.

Tapping on the location loads the latest turn-by-turn navigation within the Google Maps app on iOS.

This new update could save iPhone users repeatedly entering the same address for a weekly appointment.

It will also keep you in the loop if you need to leave early one day because of an unforeseen traffic nightmare.

Google Maps currently allows users to add up to three more places on-top of the default Home and Work locations saved in your app.
