MIDDLESBROUGH 0-0 BRIGHTON

Our reporter Ian Murtagh, at the Riverside Stadium

HT: Former Newcastle keeper Tim Krul is back in the North East for the first time since his decade-long spell at St James’ Park came to the end.

And the Dutch international has kept Brighton in it with a fine save to foil Boro danger man Traore.

Krul has spent the season in the shadows of first choice keeper Mat Ryan but he showed he’s still an excellent  keeper, diving to his right to divert Traore’s pile-driver onto the post.

Boro have had most of the play but it’s still goalless at the Riverside after 45 minutes.

NOTTS COUNTY 0-1 SWANSWA – NARSINGH

45: Carlos Carvalhal’s side area ahead through Luciano Narsingh, who cooly converted after a nice ball forward from Ki.

HULL 2-0 NOTTINGHAM FOREST – DICKO

38: Nouha Dicko doubles Hull’s lead. Jarred Bowen wins the header and then Dicko rises well to nod the ball in off the post.

MIDDLESBROUGH 0-0 BRIGHTON

35:  Pulis has yet to decide who his No. 1 striker is since replacing Garry Monk as Boro boss.

Record signing Britt Assombalonga is no longer a regular and today has to settle for a place on the bench. Rudy Gestede, who initially took over from him,  isn’t involved today which means former West Ham forward Fletcher is given the chance to impress his manager.

One player who is very much in Pulis’ plans is Adama Traore. The lightning fast winger has caught the eye in the opening half an hour at the Riverside today, getting to the bye-line and getting in some good crosses.

But it’s a low key start with Patrick Bamford’s header over the bar the nearest either side has come to breaking the deadlock.

MILLWALL 1-1 ROCHDALE – HENDERSON

31: The League One strugglers HIT back, and it’s no less than they deserve as Ian Henderson curls the ball past Millwall goalkeeper Martin.

HUDDERSFIELD 1-0 BIRMINGHAM – MOUNIE

21: Steve Mounie nets the opener at the John Smith’s Stadium. The forward powered a perfectly timed cross from Florent Hadergjonaj past Stockdale.

MILLWALL 1-0 ROCHDALE – WALLACE (PEN)

17: Championship side Millwall lead against Rochdale, who are 23rd in League One. Jed Wallace converts from the penalty spot.

HULL 1-0 NOTTINGHAM FOREST – BOWEN

16: Jarrod Bowen bags his 12th goal of the season. The winger cuts inside and smashes it past goalkeeper Jordan Smith.

WIGAN 1-0 WEST HAM – GRIGG

8: Wigan LOVE beating Premier League opposition. It’s kind of their thing…

Anyway, Will Grigg is on fire once again after heading the League One side ahead.

SOUTHAMPTON 1-0 WATFORD – STEPHENS

3: Terrible start for Watford’s new boss Javi Gracia. Jack Stephens converts from close-range after Karnezis parried out the initial effort.

WE’RE UNDERWAY

1: All the FA Cup fourth-round fixtures are underway folks. Prepare yourselves for goal mayhem!

I haven’t won a bet since the summer of 1999, but I’d say that Middlesbrough and Wigan have pretty good chances for turning over Brighton and West Ham today.

MIDDLESBROUGH vs BRIGHTON

Our reporter Ian Murtagh, at the Riverside Stadium

14:55:  Middlesbrough versus Brighton in the FA Cup isn’t a unique event – but no-one alive has ever seen the two teams play each other in the world’s most famous knock-out competition.

The last time they played each other was in 1906 when Boro won 3-1 on Teesside in a tie which went to two replays.

The Riverside holds unhappy memories for Chris Hughton and his players. Two seasons ago, a 1-1 draw between the sides secured automatic promotion for Boro with the Seagulls having to make do with the play-offs.

Revenge isn’t top of Hughton’s agenda judging by the side he sends out. It shows seven changes from the one which lost at home to Chelsea last week.

In contrast,  Boro chief Tony Pulis sends out a near- full-strength side though Adam Clayton and Ashley Fletcher who have struggled for game-time this term, get rare starts.
