eBay: Rare 50p coin sells for £600 – do you have one of these Olympic coins?

An eBay seller has recently sold a rare Olympic Triathlon 50p for £600.

The coin, which sold on 9 November 2017, was purchased for the sum with one bid made.

Seller nicoljenkin46 from Bedworth made a tasty profit with this coin, but how rare is it, and could you have one?

There are 1,163,500 of these coins in circulation currently, given them a scarcity rating of 86, which means the coin is very scarce.

The scarcity index for 50ps goes from one to 100, with one being the least scarce and 100 being the most scarce.

The more scarce a coin the more valuable it will be, generally.

Roy Mail said of the coin, minted in 2011: “A montage of the three sports which form the triathlon, with the London 2012 logo above and the denomination, “50 PENCE”, below.”

It was designed by Sarah Harvey.

Nicoljenkin46 is also currently selling a rare Battle of Hastings 50p coin, which has a scarcity index of 1.

Olympic coins are among the rarest of all coins, with football, judo and wrestling being the rarest of these.

Another rare coin has recently been sold for £500.

The Isle of Man is a rare coin, which is peculiar because there is no way of knowing how many there are.

The Isle of Man 50p is somewhat of a mystery, as the coin is not listed on Royal Mint’s site and there are no details of the coin’s circulation.

However, Nantwich Collectibles sold one of the unique coins on January 3 for £510, with fourteen bids being made on the item.

The coin shows on its face two motorcyclists racing, surrounded by a wreath – but why?

The coin is partially so mysterious because coins in the Isle of Man were not created by Royal Mint until last year.
