Snapchat fans get great new update, but it’s only out right now on iOS – not Android

Snapchat users have today got a big update bringing a great new feature, but it’s only available on iOS at the moment – not Android.

A Snapchat update is rolling out today that finally removes the white borders around snaps posted from the camera roll.

The update comes after Snapchat last year also removed the white border around Memories that were more than 24 hours old.

The ugly white border seemed to be in place to push Snapchat fans into using the camera’s own app and posting new content.

But that’s all changed today, with the white border around Snaps posted from the camera roll removed entirely.

The update is live now on iOS, but currently is not available for Android devices.

A Snapchat spokesperson told The Verge that the decision to drop the white border was an aesthetic choice

By dropping the border, Snapchat will be encouraging users to share photos and videos they wouldn’t have done before.

The update also means that Snapchat is keeping pace with Instagram, which treats both new and old content the same.

The Snapchat update also brings with it a new option for saving inside chats.

When you long press on a text chat, Snapchat users will get an option to copy the text as well as to save it.

Also included in the Snapchat update is the ability to see your friends on the Snap Map inside a group chat, if they have shared their location.

The news comes after Snapchat angered users earlier this month with an update that brought with it a brand new look.

The update redesigned the Stories page, which showcases photos and videos from friends, as well as content from professional publishers.

These ephemeral stories appeared for 24 hours before they are permanently deleted from the messenger.

But in its dramatic new redesign, Snapchat has dropped its dedicated Stories page – dropping the content amongst private messages in a single feed.

In the handful of countries where the update is already available, including the UK, Australia, and Canada, users have hammered the App Store listing with negative reviews.

In the aftermath, Snapchat’s official support account on Twitter was replying to enraged users.

One user tweeted: “The new update to Snapchat makes my brain hurts… if I wanted to watch a bunch of paid commercials I would turn on my TV. Time to switch over to instagram stories permanently”.

Snapchat’s support account was quick to reply, “Sorry to hear you feel this way. If you have any questions about the new design let us know!”

Thankfully, technology blog Tech Advisor believes it’s possible to roll-back to the previous version of the app.
