Australian Open 2018: How Hyeon Chung can BEAT Roger Federer – Mats Wilander

hung has been the surprise packed of the tournament so far.

He is the lowest ranked player, at No 58 in the world, to reach the semi-final of the Australian Open since Marat Safin in 2004.

And his biggest achievement was undoubtedly beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals.

Marin Cilic awaits in the final, but the 21-year-old will first have to overcome his biggest challenge yet.

Federer is chasing his 20th Grand Slam title and is on course to reach a record seventh Australian Open final.

The 36-year-old is the clear favourite to progress to the final.

And former world No 1 Wilander believes Chung will only beat Federer if the latter has one of his worst service matches of his career.

“I think he has a chance if Federer has a horrific serving day, which he doesn’t have,” Wilander told Eurosport.

“That’s the strength of Roger Federer. A great server knows when they go below 50 per cent so they won’t allow it.

“It’s not about hitting great serves, it’s about winning your service games and I think that’s the difference.”

However, John McEnroe has seen enough of Chung to predict a bright future for the South Korean.

“The tennis is awesome, I think he’s going to win Slams,” McEnroe said.

“He’s an awesome talent. He’s come a long way because he had some injury issues a couple years back.”
