Manchester United will make more huge signings after Alexis Sanchez deal – Craig Burley

That is the view of ESPN FC pundit and former Chelsea and Scotland midfielder Craig Burley.

Sanchez yesterday completed his move to Manchester United from Arsenal, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading in the opposite direction as part of a straight swap.

The Chile international will earn a staggering £500,000 a week after penning a four-and-a-half-year deal at Old Trafford.

Burley believes the arrival of Sanchez shows current United stars as well as future transfer targets that the club means business going forward in the market.

“Forget the football perspective of what Sanchez will probably bring at the moment,” he said.

“I honestly think this sends out a big signal here from United to players, to players that are not at United but might well be thinking about coming and also to the ones there.

“Big players like Paul Pogba, like David De Gea who’s continually linked with Real Madrid.

“The club, (Jose) Mourinho or whoever can pull him aside if anybody has any thinking about trying to move on and say ‘listen, we’re going big here. We’ve signed Pogba, we’ve spent big on (Romelu) Lukaku, we just spent big on Alexis Sanchez, we’re going after the top players’.

“I think it sends a big signal out that they’re probably going to go again in the summer.

“No matter if they finish second in the Premier League, no matter where they go in the Champions League.

“They’re going to, I think, spend again in the summer and I think this sends a good signal that they’re well-prepared to go after the top players.”
