Bristol City 0-0 Man City LIVE updates: Express Sport brings you the latest Carabao Cup semi-final score, news and highlights

36: Bit of a lull going on at Ashton Gate. Manchester City don’t really look like scoring, but they don’t look like conceding either. A goalless draw would be good enough for the Premier League leaders tonight.

33: Quite a few Everton fans on Twitter are discussing whether or not they should sign Joe Bryan. My answer? Yes. The guy has an engine and seems to know his onions going forward.

30: “Johnstones Paint Trophy – you’ll never win that,” sing the Bristol City supporters. Bloody right they won’t, lads!

Leroy Sane sends a devilish low cross across the six-yard box but it’s a yard behind Sergio Aguero, who can’t apply the finish.

27: Hearts in mouths stuff every time Kevin De Bruyne touches the ball. The Belgian is playing slightly deeper and that’s allowing him to dictate things.

Bristol have a rare break but Brownhill’s long ball forward trickles out of play.

24: Big chance! Reid draws a foul from Fernandinho just outside the Manchester City penalty area. The midfielder receives a booking for his troubles.

Now what can the Robbins produce from this… nothing. The cross is lifted straight over to Claudio Bravo.

21: Sane is on the end of a traditional “wheyyyyyyyyy,” as he slips inside the penalty. Get those long studs on, Leroy! Chances have dried up for the visitors over the last five minutes. Not much to report folks.

18: It’s been a strong start from the Premier League leaders but it remains goalless at Ashton Gate.

15: Woodwork! Sergio Aguero’s cross loops over everyone and skims against the crossbar. As we saw against Newcastle on Saturday, the Argentine will literally claim anything. Of course he meant it…

Stones outmuscles Pack when challenging for convert a Silva free-kick, but the defender glances it wide.

12: David Silva is so good to watch. The Spanish midfielder, who was appointed captain tonight, is pulling all the strings. There’s a pause in play as Walsh receives treatment. The former Everton prospect is OK to continue.

9: Hey! The kid that celebrated with Lee Johnson when Bristol City got their last minute winner against Manchester United is back on ball boy duties! Lucky charm?

6: Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last six-months, you’ll know how Manchester City generally start games against weaker opposition. Bristol City are sitting deep and defending in numbers with City seeing virtually all of the ball.

3: Manchester City aren’t messing round. Pep Guardiola’s side won a corner after 30 seconds but John Stones couldn’t control and Bristol City clear.

It’s crucial that the Robbins don’t concede early and keep the pressure on their Premier League counterparts.

BRISTOL CITY 0-0 MANCHESTER CITY

1: Aaaaand we’re off folks! Any predictions? I can’t see anything other than a Manchester City win. Then again, I said that about Manchester United before Christmas…

TWO-MINUTE WARNING

19:43: We’re almost underway folks. Obscene levels of excitement at Ashton Gate – in a good way, obviously.

Is anyone else more excited about the Bristol City goal GIF’s than the actual result tonight? Just me then. I don’t get out much…

STAT BOX

*Bristol City have won just once in their last eight games against City in all competitions (D2 L5), losing each of the last three

*The Robins have never won a League Cup semi-final match, drawing two and losing three – all against top-flight opposition.

*Bristol City have eliminated four top-flight clubs so far in this year’s competition – the only other lower league side to knock out that many were Sheffield Wednesday in 1990-91, who that year were the last non top-flight side to lift the trophy

AWAY GOALS, DO THEY COUNT?

19:30: Kinda. Away goals count but only after extra time.

So basically if Bristol City win 1-0 tonight, the match will go to extra time. And if by the end of extra time the Robbins are still leading 1-0, they will go through 2-2 on aggregate.

TRANSFER WORRY…

19:25: Bristol City supporters will hope this isn’t true.

City’s £7 million-rated left-back Joe Bryan is at the heart of a battle between Everton, Newcastle and Brighton, according to reports.

The Daily Mirror says Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has been given the go-ahead to snatch the 24-year-old.

‘WE’VE KEPT THE TIE ALIVE’

19:20: Bristol City owner, Steve Lansdown, has been speaking to the BBC. He’s an ambitious fella, isn’t he.

He said: “For the city of Bristol, it’s great to bring people together in a stadium like this, for occasions like this. We’ve kept the tie alive till tonight and it’s great that people are coming here hoping we can do it.

“And next season we want to be welcoming teams like this here every other week.”

CHARM OFFENSIVE

19:15: Pep Guardiola is making quite a few new friends down at Ashton Gate this evening. He’s posing for photos and signing autographs with Bristol City supporters.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Paddy: If there was any motivation required for Bristol City players tonight, just let them know that Manchester City have flown to Bristol.

Joe: It’s not many nights as a grown man I feel as excited as this! I reckon everyone except for Manchester City & Bristol Rovers are willing us to win. Let’s get Ashton Gate rocking and make it a night to remember! I love this club!

Rich: 24,000 + City fans need to back this team for 90 minutes regardless of what happens on the pitch! They’ve done us proud to get this far… who knows, maybe we’ll go just that bit further!

WE COULD BE HEROES…

19:10: Classic Bowie.

Sorry I’ve clearly been watching too much ‘I’m Alan Partridge’ with an introduction like that.

It’s relevant enough because Lee Johnson has urged his Bristol City players to make themselves heroes by beating Manchester City tonight.

The Robins acquitted themselves superbly against Pep Guardiola’s quadruple-chasing side and were only beaten by a late Sergio Aguero goal after leading earlier in the game.

Manager Johnson, whose team beat Manchester United in the previous round, said: “For me, and the club, the Premier League is the dream. But, saying that, for this team to beat Man City and the players they have got, it would rank as one of the best results in the club’s history.

“They’ll go down in folklore. We’ll keep going, we don’t want to be brave losers. We want to compete and compete to win. The only way we will fulfil our ambitions is to get the results on the pitch. This is where the heroes are born.”

TEAM NEWS – BRISTOL CITY

19:05: Bristol City have made two changes for tonight’s showdown. Luke Steele returns between the sticks while Liam Walsh starts in defence.

BRISTOL CITY vs MANCHESTER CITY

19:00: Better late than never, Bristol City! Here’s Lee Johnson’s side to face Manchester City.

Bristol City XI: Steele, Wright, Flint, Magnusson, Brownhill, Pack, Smith, Walsh, Bryan, Paterson, Reid.

Subs: Subs: Wollacott, Baker, Eliasson, Kent, Engvall, Taylor, Diedhiou.

LATE…

18:55: No idea where this Bristol City team news if folks. I’ll let you know as soon as they release their starting XI. I assume the GIF department are responsible…

TEAM NEWS – MANCHESTER CITY

18:50: OK, so Pep Guardiola has fooled us all by naming a nearly full-strength side for tonight’s clash.

The Spanish tactician has made just two changes from the side who beat Newcastle 3-1 on Saturday with goalkeeper Ederson replaced by Claudio Bravo, presumably for comedy reasons.

There’s also a change in midfield as Bernardo Silva comes in for Raheem Sterling, who drops to the bench.

BRISTOL CITY vs MANCHESTER CITY

18:45: OK, here are the line-ups for tonight’s clash. Apparently a weakened City side still includes Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne.

Manchester City XI: Bravo, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Bernardo, Silva, De Bruyne, Sane, Aguero.

Subs: Ederson, Danilo, Kompany, Sterling, Gündoğan, Mangala, Yaya Toure.

TEAM NEWS KLAXON

18:43: The line-ups should arrive in the next couple of minutes. Pep Guardiola suggested he would make some changes, but was that just to lull the mighty Bristol City into a false sense of security? Probably not.

FUN FACT

18:40: Alright, it’s not a particularly fun fact but I didn’t know how to headline this entry.

The last time a Championship side overturned a semi-final first leg deficit against a Premier League club in the competition was in 2000-01 – Birmingham lost the first leg 1-0 to Ipswich, before winning the return 4-1 at home.

I think we all remember where we were when that happened…

EVENING

18:30: Welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Carabao Cup.

It’s your classic David vs Goliath this evening as Championship Bristol City welcome Premier League juggernaut (love that word) to Ashton Gate.

Except in this story, Goliath has billions of pounds at his disposal and a Sergio Aguero who’s rediscovered his deadly form. Sling-shot might not cut it…

Anyway, the Championship side remain confident of upsetting the odds after losing only 2-1 to the runaway Premier League leaders in the first leg a fortnight ago.

Should be an interesting night in the west country, and I’ll keep you updated with everything. Let’s get going!

BRISTOL CITY vs MANCHESTER CITY – PREVIEW

Manchester City are still without Fabian Delph for tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Bristol City.

The England midfielder, who has successfully switched to left-back this season, has a knee problem. Youngster Oleksandr Zinchenko or the versatile Danilo will play in the position.

Captain Vincent Kompany (calf) remains doubtful while striker Gabriel Jesus (knee), midfielder Phil Foden (ankle) and defender Benjamin Mendy (knee) are unavailable.

Manchester City provisional squad: Ederson, Bravo, Walker, Otamendi, Stones, Mangala, Adarabioyo, Danilo, Zinchenko, Toure, Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, D Silva, B Silva, Sterling, Sane, Diaz, Aguero.

Bristol City knocked Manchester United out in the quarter-final at Ashton Gate and are just a game from next month’s final at Wembley.

The Robins are fifth in the Championship but are winless in their last six matches, including the last-gasp defeat at the Etihad.
