10.14am: Earthquake strikes off coast of Alaska
A huge 8.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska, shaking buildings hundreds of miles away.
The quake struck 157 miles (256km) south-east of Chiniak, Alaska, at 9.31am GMT on Tuesday.
Reports on social media suggest the tremors were felt as far south as Seatle and Vancouver.
People are being alerted to the danger by text messages, which told people to seek refuge on higher grounds in affected areas.
Shaun Dyess said: “I’m here in Anchorage Alaska. It was shaking for along time. Hope no one got hurt.”
Details on damage and casualties have not yet emerged.
