Call of Duty WW2 Resistance event countdown: Release date, time for HUGE community update

Call of Duty WW2 fans are counting down to the next big in-game event.

The WW2 Resistance Community event is about to go live on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The Resistance update has been given a January 23 release date and is expected to have a 6pm UK start time. It ends five weeks later on February 27.

Launching to celebrate the release of next week’s Resistance DLC, the latest update adds a new Division, new game modes, new items and playlists.

Even better is that The Resistance is completely free to all players.

“The Resistance is the latest community event to come to Call of Duty: WW2!” reads an Activision blog post.

“This five-week event highlights the resistance fighters in World War II.

“Beginning on January 23 and lasting until February 27, The Resistance community event has something for everyone, as it will bring with it a brand-new Division, new game modes, new gear, free supply drops and more!”

It all begins with a new Division known as the Resistance.

Levelling up your Resistance fighter unlocks a Pistol Tactical Knife combo, the ability to scramble enemy maps, a new pistol attachment and a mini-map indicator.

There’s also two new game modes called Demolition and Prop Hunt, while Gun Game also makes a return.

Demolition is similar to Search and Destroy, only with respawns instead of single lives. Prop Hunt, meanwhile, tasks one team with hiding as different objects while the other team hunts them down.

Elsewhere, Captain Butcher makes a return with new loot and a brand new look. You can nab the new gear by completing Special Orders, and by opening weekly Supply Drop rewards.

The only drawback is that Supply Drops don’t carry over, so you need to login weekly to claim your rewards.

Finally, paying a visit to Major Howard gives players the chance to unlock new weapons.

This includes a new assault rifle: the Volkssturmgewehr, the Orso: a new SMG, and a new melee weapon: the Combat Knife.
