Nintendo Switch games shock as Sony extend new PS4 and Xbox One support to console

The Nintendo Switch games list already boasts some top titles, with more being planned for 2018.

Fans can already play the likes of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, while more first-party support is in development.

This will come in the form of a new Pokemon RPG for the Switch, as well as Metroid Prime 4.

But what might surprise fans is that more Sony support for the console – already available on the PS4 and Xbox One – is coming to the Switch.

This won’t come in the form of new Sony exclusive for the portable gaming device, but it might make it easier to bring new titles to it.

That’s because Sony’s free-to-use engine, PhyreEngine, looks to be being made compatible to use on the Nintendo Switch.

“Used in over 200+ titles across a number of different of platforms, PhyreEngine has been successfully adopted by dozens of game studios around the world,” the official site explains.

“The entire engine is provided as source making it easily customisable to meet your needs. It’s completely free to registered developers and licensed for usage on any platform.”

Support for the Switch has not been officially announced yet, however, fans have spotted new evidence to suggest it’s coming.

References to it being used for the new Dragon Quest Builder’s demo have been found on the Switch’s eShop page.

And if this is true, it could mean that many other titles could be ported much more easily to the Switch in the future.

PhyreEngine has been around for a while and is currently used to support games on Microsoft’s Xbox One, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see it expanded to the Switch.

The site doesn’t list the new Nintendo games console as among those compatible device, listing these instead:

“Support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Windows (OpenGL and DirectX 11), Google  Android and Apple iOS.”

Some high-profile titles that use PhyreEngine include the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, OlliOlli 2 and the Hotline Miami series.

Fans are also hopeful that other outside support could be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the future too.

Nintendo fans have been waiting for an update on the Netflix release date for Nintendo Switch, which was put in some doubt earlier this month.

However, Netflix has posted a new update that has given Nintendo Switch owners fresh hope.

In a new statement, a Netflix spokesperson said that the streaming giant is still exploring the possibility of launching on Nintendo Switch.

“We are still exploring the opportunity with Nintendo, but don’t have definitive plans to share at this time,” Netflix explains.

“The statement from the Netflix CS twitter handle has been modified to reflect this.”

It seems a no-brainer to bring support to the versatile console, although fans look set for a longer wait than they first thought.
