Nokia 3310 to be rebooted again? Retro phone may return with a new feature and £49 price

Nokia’s charming 3310 was the phone everyone was talking about at last year’s Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona.

Whilst LG, Huawei and Sony where unveiling state of the art devices, Nokia opted for something a little less flash but one that was packed with nostalgia.

The new 3310 was an instant success with the basic, and very cheap, phone selling out across the UK.

And that’s no surprise with this updated classic including a host of extras over the original 3310 – which first launched back in 2000.

The 2017 model features a bigger colour display, new plastic design which is far more durable and a battery that can last for almost a month.

It also arrived with a price of under £50.

Now it seems HMD Global, the firm behind the 3310 relaunch, could be planning another reboot for the 3310.

One of the biggest criticisms of last year’s model was the fact that it didn’t include 4G technology.

This meant is was almost impossible to access the web or many apps that need data to make them work – such as Facebook and Whatsapp.

HMD did resolve this problem late last year with the launch of a 3G model but now things could be getting even better with 4G rumoured to be coming to the 3310..

The 4G data signal is over twice as fast as the older 3G signal, allowing movie downloads, web pages and photos to viewed in a much quicker time.

Although there’s no word on an official launch of a new 3310 with 4G we do know HMD Global will be holding an event at MWC 2018.

Invites were sent out earlier this week and Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global also revealed that the company has grand plans for MWC 2018 tweeting, “Sorry for radio silence. Been super busy planning #MWC2018 . Please expect it to be awesome.”

Alongside the retro phone, there could also be some new flagships revealed in Barcelona next month.

These include the global launch of the Nokia 6 and 7, plus a possible unveiling of an all-new Nokia 9 phone.

This flagship is rumoured to include a edge-to-edge display, powerful Snapdragon 835 processor and dual-lens rear camera.

Express.co.uk will be in Barcelona and will bring you all the news live as it happens from MWC 2018.
