Secret second love story behind Meghan Markle’s engagement ring from Prince Harry revealed

Grant Mobley, a gemologist and Director at Pluczenik, one of the world’s leading diamantaires estimates the ring would be worth around £122,500.

He said: “From seeing the pictures, I would estimate that the centre diamond is a slightly elongated cushion cut diamond, approximately 3.00 – 4.00 carats. The side diamonds are more than likely oval or round cut diamonds about 0.75 carats each.”

Now Grant has revealed the second, hidden love story being the ring that stems from Prince Harry’s youth.

The huge stone at the centre of the ring hails from Botswana, and there is an emotional and philanthropical meaning behind this choice.

Grant said: “It was made public that the centre diamond for her engagement ring came from Botswana – a country that is very special to the couple.

“While it is very difficult to know the origin of diamond pieces, there is a very good chance that many of Fergie’s diamonds also came from Botswana.”

Harry may have made this choice due to his love for Botswana, a country he has visited numerous times. He is also a patron of Rhino Conservation Botswana.

Prince Harry has described the continent as the place “where I feel more like myself than anywhere else in the world”.

Purchasing the stone from an African country may well have been an acknowledgement of this fact.

Grant explained: “What most do not know is that Botswana is the second biggest diamond producer by value in the world and it is safe to say that many of the amazing pieces we see have origins from the country.

“Diamonds purchased from Botswana generate revenue for their economy – before diamonds were first discovered in Botswana in 1967, it was one of the poorest countries in the world.

“Since then, the beautiful country has been positively transformed by the diamond industry into one of Africa’s most robust and prosperous nations.

“In fact, Botswana’s economy has been growing at an average annual rate of 8 per cent since independence, making it the third fastest-growing economy in the world over that period – and it now ranks as one of the highest-rated countries on the planet in terms of the economic freedom of its citizens.”
