Facebook Messenger not letting you type? Here’s how to fix it

Users of the popular Messenger app are facing frustration today with an issue that appears to stop they replying to messages or starting new conversations.

The problem, which is affecting iOS users, appears to stem from the auto-correction feature on the keyboard.

Users are complaining that, when they try and type, it’s only possible to add a few words before the app freezes.

Messenger fans have taken to Twitter in hope of finding a fix with one user saying: “Every time my iOS phone (iPhone 6) autocorrects in Messenger it autocorrects the word but then won’t let me type further or hit backspace.

“I restarted my phone and reinstalled messenger but it didn’t do anything, please help.”

Facebook has confirmed to TechCrunch that it is looking into the issue, but there’s currently no word what is causing the problems or when it is likely to be fixed.

Luckily, it seems there is a fairly simple temporary fix.

It appears that heading into Settings > Keyboards and switching off Auto-Correction will stop the app freezing until Facebook releases a patch.

It’s worth noting that this fix will also stop all other apps from accessing auto correct.

Messenger recently revealed a new way to send and receive photos which delivers them in the ultimate 4K format.

This means users get a much richer and sharper experience when viewing images that have been sent over social media.

Messenger says that it is making significant investments in how people communicate visually via the service.

The news of this 4K photo sharing feature comes just weeks after F that allows users to send money to one another via the popular app.

Peer-to-peer payments have been available in the US for a while but this new feature will now be available to Messenger users in Britain.

And this is yet another exclusive feature as, despite Facebook owning rival service WhatsApp, the US technology firm says payments will only be available via Messenger.

Apple is also planning something similar with Apple Pay payments being made through its Messages app, but Facebook appears to have beaten the US technology giant to a UK launch.
