Man Utd enquired about Chelsea star Eden Hazard before going for Alexis Sanchez

Manchester United want Sanchez to become their new No7 with the Arsenal star set to move to Old Trafford this month.

However, Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the 29-year-old was not initially their first choice, with Mourinho instead determined to sign Hazard.

The 54-year-old Manchester United boss managed Hazard while at Chelsea, with the duo helping the Blues win the EFL Cup and Premier League title in 2015.

The Belgium international’s future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain with Hazard reluctant to sign a contract extension.

That has led to talk he could join Real Madrid, with Los Blancos primed to overhaul their flailing attack at the end of the season.

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to depart with the 32-year-old said to be eager to return to United.

But Hazard, Don Balon say, thinks differently.

Instead of reuniting with Mourinho, the Belgium international supposedly told his former boss he is only interested in a move to La Liga.

However, whether or not Real go for him remains to be seen.

The Spanish giants are keen on Hazard but Robert Lewandowski and Neymar are also in their radar.

Lewandowski expressed frustrations at Bayern Munich last year and, despite continuing to dazzle on the pitch, will be tempted by the prospect of playing for Real.

Neymar, meanwhile, is Florentino Perez’s top target.

The PSG star only left Barcelona in the summer but, with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe preventing him from being the main man, may be on the move again at the end of the season.
