Natalia Shagulina’s (R) bravery meant there were no fatalities

A dozen students were wounded in the bloodbath but 46 year old Natalia Shagulina’s bravery meant there were no fatalities.

Doctors disclosed that when she awoke from a coma, the Russian teacher’s first question was: “How are the children?”

Natalia, a mother-of-two, is fighting for life after her neck was partially severed by the masked attackers who stormed her classroom in the city of Perm as she taught a technology lesson.

The attackers staged an intended murder spree based on the Columbine school massacre in the US almost two decades ago, believe Russian law enforcement.

Gennady Shagulina

The teacher’s husband Gennady today revealed that medics have refused to predict whether or not she will survive her appalling injuries.

Even though she is now conscious “they are not giving forecasts, and say she is in a hard condition”, he explained.

Her two children, a son, 20, and daughter, 12, were not allowed to see her.

Gennady said: “The doctors say that Natalia miraculously came back from the dead.”

Her condition is described as “grave but stable”.

He added: “There is a deep penetrating wound on the nape of her neck.

“Her neck was cut.”

Gennady said she had “many injuries on her body”.

Thanks to her bravery meant all her students survived the school bloodbath in Perm, although one may lose an eye, and another has a deep neck gash.

Doctors disclosed that her wounds  were far worse than first revealed after Monday’s attack on school number 127 in Perm.

Her husband said: “She saved lives of many children.

“Her first question was about them when she came round.

“I did not want to encourage her to recall this and doctors told me not to talk about it.

“But she remembered herself.

Alexander Buslidze is one of the suspects

“She told me how she was already injured and bleeding, but was trying to push away the knifemen, and get the kids out of the classroom.

“Some of the were in a state of shock, and clung to the walls of the classroom.

“Natasha (Natalia) regrets that she did not have time to get all of them out of the classroom before she lost consciousness.”

She said: “It’s a pity I could not save them all.”

The two suspects Lev Bidzhakov and Alexander Buslidze – both aged 16 – were today accused of attempted murder of students aged 10 and 11 and their teacher.

Both have been remanded in custody for two months.

If found guilty they face up to seven years in jail.

Regional human rights commissioner Svetlana Denisova said: “The teacher of class 4B Natalia Shagulina is a hero.

“She was stabbed 17 times while trying to save the children.”

Russia’s education minister called her “a teacher with a capital T”.

Both suspects remain in hospital under armed police guard

Both suspects remain in hospital under armed police guard, suffering from knife wounds.

The pair had a pact to kill each other but failed to carry it out because it was “too painful”, it was reported.

Vladimir Putin’s children’s ombudsman expressed outrage that police and social services had failed to heed warnings from the father of one of the knife-wielding suspects.

“This tragedy could have been prevented,” said Anna Kuznetsova.

She praised teacher Shagulina, saying: “I have heard so many good words about her.”

She added: “Her condition is grave.

“We all hope for the best and wish her strength and good health. “

Calling for a bravery honour for the teacher she said: “She deserves an award but has already won the best prize – the endless gratitude of parents of her students.”
