Emmanuel Macron poll sees one third of French disapprove of French President’s actions

Results showed 37 percent of those asked disapprove of the centrist’s actions as president, including 18 percent who said they “strongly disapprove”.

The poll, conducted by Kantar Sofres One Point for Le Figaro newspaper and the French radio channels RTL and LCI, found only 35 percent of those questioned expressed satisfaction with Mr Macron.

The results, published on Monday, saw 21 percent said it was still “too early” to judge Mr Macron’s job performance, saying he needed “more time” to roll out his radical reform agenda.

Emmanuel Rivière, the managing director of Kantar Public France, told Le Figaro: “People are expectant. They’re curious to see what he can and will do. The political landscape has been upturned.”

Those who disapprove of Mr Macron’s actions are, for the most part, members of France’s conservative Front National party: 58 per cent of those polled who described themselves as “extreme-right” said they held an unfavourable opinion of the president.

Immigration remains a top concern for the French, according to the 1,000 people aged 18 and over who were questioned from January 11 to 12.

Of those polled, 43 percent said the fight against illegal immigration should be the government’s “top priority”, while 35 percent called for “tougher asylum laws”.

In addition, 34 percent of respondents named terrorism as their top concern, while 43 percent called for a “strengthening of anti-terrorism laws”.

Just over half of those polled, some 55 percent said that Mr Macron was “making good on his key campaign pledges”.
