Blizzard Battlenet DOWN: Overwatch, World of Warcraft having offline server problems

UPDATE: Blizzard has posted a new update regarding Overwatch and Battle.net login issues.

The company is investigating server problems with the Battle.net app and Overwatch connection issues on PS4.

“We’re currently investigating issues logging in to the Blizzard Battle Net app as well as connection issues to Overwatch on Playstation 4. Thank you for your patience.”

There are fresh reports that Overwatch and World of Warcraft are down for players.

Independent website Down Detector has received hundreds of reports that Blizzard and Overwatch is down today.

The outage tracker monitors social mentions around certain topics to detect when services go down across the world.

The Down Detector outage map also showed the Blizzard issues has been affecting users in Europe, while Overwatch is going offline in the US and Europe.

Blizzard has acknowledged the server issues on Twitter, telling fans that it is investigating problems.

“Players may be experiencing latency or disconnections. We are investigating this now,” reads a Blizzard CS EU tweet.

Fans have taken to Twitter to complain of the server issues

One fan writes: “Overwatch on PC has connection issues as well, can’t log in on either the game nor on the app.”

Another post reads: “Try to play overwatch for the first time in months and it won’t let me connect.  Wonder why I quit lol.”

In a follow up tweet, Blizzard recommends closing third-party programs running in the background.

“Third-party programs running in the background can interfere with our games – make sure you close them should you notice unexpected in-game issues.”

The news comes as the Overwatch publisher confirms the release date for the Blizzard World map.

The Blizzard World “Grand Opening” event has been given a January 23 release date on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Game director Jeff Kaplan also announced plans to release new skins, while balance changes should follow shortly after.

Speaking about the new balance changes, Kaplan explained: “The map and the loot box items will come out together. 

“My guess (and this is not a promise… just trying to be real here) is that any balance changes will drop shortly after. 

“The map/items are already in console certification but the balance changes have not yet been submitted as we are still evaluating them.”
