Avengers Infinity War: ‘Tom Holland’s Spider-Man set for Tom Hardy’s Venom cameo’

It can be a bit of a legal minefield when it comes to film studios’ rights to comic book characters.

While Disney currently own the Avengers and now Fox’s rights to the X-Men, Sony still hold on to Spider-Man.

However back in 2015 a deal had been made for the Web Slinger to join Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his solo movie Spider-Man: Homecoming, would still be produced by Sony Pictures.

This may seem simple enough, but Sony also have their own mini-Marvel universe in the works, including Tom Hardy’s Venom – which is currently shooting.

Marvel fans will know Venom as a Spider-Man villain, but due to the rights complications, Sony’s mini-Marvel universe isn’t part of Disney’s, although this seems to be in dispute.

In the end the understanding was that Sony’s films (other than Spider-Man) would be set in the same world, but in a kind of separate pocket – like Netflix’s Defenders series.

It was also confirmed that Holland’s Spider-Man would not feature in Venom, but now a new rumour is suggesting otherwise.

Collider are releasing a video at around 10pm GMT tonight, in which host Jon Schnepp will clarify what he knows about Spider-Man appearing in the Hardy-led movie.

Cristian Harloff, Head of Development at Collider, tweeted: “Damn @JonSchnepp dropping bombs and saying he knows that Spiderman will be in #Venom on #collidrmovietalk Tom Holland’s Spiderman!”

Meanwhile Jon Schnepp, wrote: “I will clarify my #VenomMovie #Venom information tomorrow on @ColliderVideo  #ColliderHeroes so check it out, it’ll be up around 2pm on the @youtube channel.”
