House prices: The most affordable postcodes in England and Wales – would you buy here?

Middlesbrough has been revealed as one of the most affordable postcodes for house prices in England and Wales.

Three postcodes within the large industrial town in North Yorkshire made the top ten list, in data from eMoov.

One postcode in the area came top of the list for the most affordable housing to buy.

The average sold price for properties in the TS2 postcode there came in at just £46,000.

This compares with the average sold price for properties across England and Wales, which is £288,494. 

The Middlesbrough postcodes of TS1, where the average price was £61,474, and TS3, where the average price was £59,885, also made the list.

A number of other areas in the north of England made the list, like the Wirral, where the L44 postcode boasted an average sold price of £46,500. 

The L4 postcode in nearby Liverpool in Merseyside came in at £70,454.

Two of the most affordable postcodes were found in Wales, and one of these is in the capital. 

Cardiff, which is the eleventh largest city in the United Kingdom, is home to the affordable CF1 postcode, where the average sold price is £57,500.

Rhonda Cynon Raf, a borough in the south of Wales, has an average sold price of £68,507.  

Meanwhile, in the UK capital of London, the most affordable postcode was found in the Greater London borough of Bexley.

The average sold price in the DA18 postcode in Bexley was calculated at £225,882.

The London boroughs of Barnet, Hounslow, Barking & Dagenham and Greenwich also featured in the list. 

The first Halifax house price index of 2018 was released this week, and one expert has picked through the data to explain what it means for homeowners in the UK.

Figures revealed continued growth in the market, with a rise in prices of an average of 2.7 per cent.

Property expert Louisa Fletcher explained which areas will see a property value increase in the UK in 2018.
