Samsung Galaxy S8 Android Oreo update – Why major upgrade could arrive on YOUR device soon

Samsung owners could be one step closer to getting Android 8 Oreo on their smartphones.

This major update is currently being beta tested by users across the globe in readiness for its impending release.

There’s no official word from on when Android Oreo will be pushed out to millions of S8 owners but the latest news suggests it could come soon.

As spotted by Reddit users, Samsung has confirmed that its beta programme will come to an end on January 15.

It has also stopped all new registrations for the test software meaning those who haven’t already signed up won’t now be able to download the beta.

This latest news from Samsung is likely to mean that the last beta to pushed out was the definitive version that will end up on all devices.

This update included a number of bug fixes such as resolving the issue of the phone restarting while using the camera and the home screen not fitting on the device properly.

So this is clearly exciting news for S8 fans but it’s worth noting that, if you own an S8 on contract, even when the beta ends it may take some time for Oreo to arrive.

Networks always have to test the software before releasing it to customers and this can take a number of weeks or even months.

Another piece of news that could suggest an Oreo launch is imminent is the upcoming release of the Galaxy S9.

This new flagship will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress next month and is likely to feature Android Oreo.

Once this device is finally unveiled, the floodgates could open for other Samsung phones to get Google’s latest operating system.

Samsung confirmed the release of the Galaxy S9 at CES last week although the Korean firm hasn’t given an exact launch date.

The S9 is expected to feature a range of minor upgrades over the current S8 with the phone thought to include a faster processor, better camera and updated position of the rear fingerprint scanner.
