Rio Ferdinand jokes Cenk Tosun had ridiculous clause written into Everton contract

Tosun joined Everton from Turkish giants Besiktas for £27million in the first week of the transfer window.

The striker made his Toffees debut today against Tottenham and struggled in his side’s 4-0 loss at Wembley.

Tottenham dominated the 62 minutes he was on the pitch as his Everton team-mates failed to offer him much support up top.

Ferdinand says Tosun has to get used to Sam Allardyce’s style of football where he is often left alone in attack.

But he has seen positives in the 26-year-old that could mean he turns out to be a good signing for Everton.

“I hope that the word isolation was mentioned in his contract negotiations when he was signing for Everton,” the Manchester United legend said on BT Sport.

“I don’t think he would have had this too often at Besiktas where he was left up on his own playing.

“But this is what he’s going to have to deal with.

“But there have been moments where it looks like he’s got some decent hold-up play, some aggression, physicality.

“With players like (Gylfi) Sigurdsson and (Wayne) Rooney around him with that class and quality, if he can just get that ball tighter together they can start creating some things.”

Tosun will be hoping for a better home debut when West Brom visit Goodison Park next Saturday.
