Coronation Street’s Nigel Havers reveals all before he departs for stage tour

More recently, he has played Coronation Street’s Lewis Archer, appeared in ITV’s Benidorm and taken part in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

He is about to take to the stage touring round the UK with Yasmina Reza’s play, Art. Nigel, 66, lives in London with his wife Georgiana Bronfman.

You are on the road with Art very soon – are you excited?

I’m very excited. It’s my favourite modern play.

It’s just the most beautifully constructed book about friendship, with the most wonderful characters. Everything about it just rings true.

Do you get on well with your co-stars, Denis Lawson and Stephen Tompkinson?

I do. We are all mates and that makes it even more wonderful.

What’s the biggest misconception about you?

Probably that I’m posh. I’m not very posh at all – I’m just normal.

Who would you swap places with for 24 hours?

The Prime Minister, Theresa May, just to see what it was like. I’d like to find out what was really going on! It would be interesting to see how much was truth and how much was lies.

Where’s the strangest place you’ve been recognised?

I was on an island in Fiji recently and someone came up to me and said,

‘I thought you were great in Corrie.’ They must get it in Fiji.

Are you enjoying yourself as you get older?

The good thing about getting older is that you aren’t so fraught about life and work, you’re much more relaxed. You don’t get quite so upset about things like you did when you were younger. I try and do things that I know I’m going to enjoy, because that expression ‘life’s too short’ is getting into the frame now!

Have you made any New Year’s resolutions?

Do you know, I’ve never made them. My New Year’s resolution is not to make any because it’s just a waste of time.

What are your plans career-wise this year?

I’m going to be in Art until June and then I have another TV project coming up that I’m not allowed to talk about just yet. You’ll just have to wait and see!

You can see Nigel in Art from February 14.
