Android 8.0 Oreo is BACK on the OnePlus 5, here’s how to download

OnePlus 5 owners can once again download the latest Android 8.0 Oreo beta.

The Chinese smartphone start-up pulled the beta release earlier this month due to an unspecified bug in the software.

However, OnePlus appears to have fixed the issues.

The company has started to roll-out the OxygenOS 5.0.1 update to OnePlus 5 owners once again.

Alongside all of the usual features associated with Android 8.0 Oreo, the new OxygenOS beta includes a new user interface for the default camera app, as well the patches included in the December 2017 security update.

The new OxygenOS 5.0.1 build will fail to install on devices with an unlocked bootloader, OnePlus has warns in a post on its forums.

If that applies to you, simply back-up the data on your OnePlus 5, then re-lock your bootloader.

Those who don’t fancy the over-the-air update can download the beta direct from OnePlus and sideload it onto their device.

OnePlus says the beta release will be a “staged roll out”, which means it could “take some time to get out to everyone”.

Android 8.0 Oreo includes picture-in-picture functionality, enabling users to continue watching a video while using another app.

There are also new battery life improvements, better auto-fill options and notification indicators on app icons.

OnePlus allows anyone to join its Open Beta Program and manually sideload the latest Oreo beta.

However, OnePlus 5 owners should be aware that since this is beta software, it may be unstable and likely contains a number of glitches, incompatibilities and bugs.

If you’re using the OnePlus 5 as your primary device, it’s probably best not to install this beta release.

Thankfully, the fact OnePlus is rolling out Android Oreo beta once again is a solid indication the fully-featured public launch isn’t too far away.
