Ecuador’s Foreign Minister says there were threats to Mr Assange’s life from third-party states.
The Ecuadorean government is seeking a “dignified and just” solution in the Assange case with the British government.
It comes after Britain has refused a request by Ecuador for diplomatic status to be given to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, a spokesman for Britain’s Foreign Office said.
Assange has been holed up for more than five years in the Ecuadorean embassy in London where he was granted asylum in 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden over rape allegations.
The Ecuadorean foreign minister stated Assange would not leave the embassy without security guarantees.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “The government of Ecuador recently requested diplomatic status for Mr Assange here in the UK.
“The UK did not grant that request, nor are we in talks with Ecuador on this matter.”
“Ecuador knows that the way to resolve this issue is for Julian Assange to leave the embassy to face justice.”
Mr Assange faces arrest for breaking his bail conditions if he leaves Ecuador’s London embassy.
British police say he will be arrested if he leaves the embassy in Knightsbridge for failing to surrender to the court in 2012.

It comes after Mr Assange posted a picture of himself in an Ecuadorian football shirt, amid unconfirmed reports he had been issued an Ecuadorian passport.
