Barcelona confirm Philippe Coutinho is INJURED just days after £142m Liverpool transfer

Barcelona have splashed out £142million on Philippe Coutinho and he has today undergone a medical with the Catalan side.

However, it has been confirmed the Brazil international is suffering from a minor injury and will be sidelined for about 20 days.

“Coutinho has an injury to his right thigh and he is expected to be out for around 3 weeks,” the club have said.

The set-back means the former Liverpool man will have his debut pushed back until at least next month.

But the 25-year-old appeared to be in high spirits – despite the bad news – and told Barca’s in-house TV station he could not wait to turn out for his new club.

“I’m very happy, very happy,” Coutinho, told Barca TV.

“I have always said that it is a dream that I am living and I am very happy to be here.

“To be able to play, win titles, make the fans happy… always play with joy. It is incredible to know that I am going to live with idols, players with a lot of history.

“Footballers like Leo Messi, Luis Suarez, (Andres) Iniesta, (Gerard) Pique, (Sergio) Busquets.

“I am very happy to be able to live together, to be able to learn from them and be able to win together.”

Barcelona’s fans, however, were far from impressed and were not happy they would have to wait until next month to see their star signing in action.

“Tell me it’s fake,” one supporter wrote on Twitter.

“Wtf! Are you saying we’re not going to see this guy in action soon,” another added.

“Hurry up Liverpool get the money before Barcelona change the mind,” a third supporter joked.

“£142million for an injured player hahaha,” a fourth fan wrote.
