UFC News: Conor McGregor faces title stripping, Lawler’s ACL injury, Manuwa’s return

Conor McGregor’s reign as lightweight champion in jeopardy

president Dana White has seemingly suggested that the promotion will strip Conor McGregor of the lightweight title if he decides to sit on the sidelines until the summer.

“As long as Conor is willing to fight by March, we can do Khabib (Nurmagomedov) versus Tony (Ferguson),” White told Yahoo Sport’s Kevin Iole.

“And then the winner fights Conor for the title.

“Or, Conor doesn’t want to fight and wants to sit out until next fall, then we’d have to make Khabib versus Tony for the title, not the interim, title.”

Robbie Lawler suffers injury

Former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler tore his ACL during his December bout with Rafael dos Anjos, White has revealed.

“The guy’s leg was destroyed,” White said in the same interview with Iole. “Okay?

“Blew his ACL and his meniscus and every other thing that’s in your knee out in like the third round.

“Wobbled over to the fence, laid against it, and asked dos Anjos to come in so that they could just bang it out. Robbie Lawler went to the fifth round.”

“Last year was a great night at The O2 with a great knockout and that’s what’s going down again on March 17th.

“The London fans can expect another knockout. Blachowicz is in trouble.”
