Following a recent dip in form for the Red Devils over the Christmas period that now sees them 15 points behind league leaders Manchester City, and Jose Mourinho’s comments on transfer spending, reports had suggested he could leave before his contract expires.
Mourinho’s decision to moan about United not spending as much as City on players has frustrated United’s hierarchy.
But suggestions his future could be in doubt and him walking away from Old Trafford are wide of the mark, say the Telegraph.
They suggest it is in fact the opposite, and United chiefs are keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract and have held extensive talks.
Mourinho will enter the final 12 months of his existing £12million-a-year deal this summer.

There is an option in Mourinho’s current deal to extend by a further year to June 2020.
Mourinho has already made it clear he wants to stay beyond his current deal and rubbished reports of him not wanting to see out his contract.
“If you want to speak about some news, I say garbage! I don’t find a better word to define the talk,” he said.
“If you want to ask me directly, which I suppose you want, if I see myself next season in Manchester United, I say I see myself [here] and, as I told you when I arrived, I am going to leave when the club wants me to leave because I have no intention to leave at all.
“My intention is to stay and to work and to improve and to bring the club to where the club belongs. I want to stay. I don’t see any reason not to stay.
“So, yes, I still have a contract. In fact, I am in the middle of my contract, I’m not in the last couple of months. My desire is to stay.
“It’s just a question of the club, the owners, the board, Mr [Ed] Woodward, [and what] they all want, [if] they all are happy with my contribution and they want me to stay beyond the end of this contract.
“But, yes, I want to stay.”
Mourinho’s Red Devils are in action against Derby County in the third round of the FA Cup tonight (8pm).
