Former US staffer FIERCELY defends Trump in row with BBC presenter over EXPLOSIVE new book

The row erupted over the expected release of a tell-all book on the eccentric life of , called “Fire and Fury: Inside The Trump White House”.

The former Republican White House staffer and political commentator Brad Blakeman said Donald Trump has had a “tremendous year” and it is unlikely the Republican Party would be impacted by the release of the explosive new book.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Mr Blakeman said: “The President has had a tremendous year. We are at full employment. Employment is 4.1 percent. Our growth is at 3 percent.”

BBC presenter Razia Iqbal slammed Trump and said: “But he’s only had success with one piece of legislation… In a year.”

Mr Blakeman hit back and said: “No, absolutely not. There are many pieces of legislation that don’t rise to the seriousness and generational effect of tax reform.

“But he’s reduced regulation by law. He’s certainly cut taxes. Defence spending has been increased. There are a lot of things that he’s done that he’s not getting credit for, including federal judges.

“So, if he’s crazy, he’s crazy like a fox.”

In the new book, former chief strategist Steve Bannon tells author Michael Wolff of the President’s most intimate habits.

Author Michael Wolff also claims Mr Trump screamed at housekeeping staff who tidied up after him. Mr Trump allegedly said: “If my shirt is on the floor, it’s because I want it on the floor”.

A furious Donald Trump reacted by ordering lawyers to stop the release. But the publishers appeared unphased by the threat and pushed the release date to Friday, four days earlier than planned.

Mr Blakeman insisted the publication will be “debunked” once released. He said: “Once the book is seriously questioned, I think it will lose a lot of the credibility.

“But in a 24/7 news cycle, I can assure you that we are going to be onto more serious matters than a book of a scorned employee.”

Following news of the book release, Donald Trump wrote on Twitter: “I authorized Zero access to White House (actually turned him down many times) for author of phony book!

“I never spoke to him for book. Full of lies, misrepresentations and sources that don’t exist. Look at this guy’s past and watch what happens to him and Sloppy Steve!”

The book alleges Mr Trump and his team had no intention of winning the election and had run simply as a branding exercise

Mr Trump, said to have been shell-shocked when the election results came in, has blasted Mr Bannon as having “lost his mind” in the fallout over the damaging comments.
