Coutinho to Barcelona: Liverpool set transfer demands to make move happen in January

The January transfer window is not even a week old but headlines have been dominated by Coutinho.

He made it clear in the summer he wanted to leave by handing in a transfer request but Liverpool refused to allow him to join Barcelona.

The Catalan club lodged three official bids that were swiftly knocked back by the Merseyside outfit.

However, despite Liverpool’s insistence Coutinho is not for sale, there is a growing feeling Barcelona will eventually get their main target.

Liverpool are hopeful they can keep hold of their man until the end of the season.

But the Mirror claim Barcelona can fast-track the transfer if they meet Liverpool’s demands.

It is said Liverpool are after a deal worth £140m with £120m paid up front, as opposed to the smaller lump sum offered in the summer.

Barcelona’s base offer in the summer reportedly never rose above £82m and added in unrealistic add-ons such as Coutinho winning the Ballon d’Or.

The La Liga giants have also made strides to push through an agreement with the club by holding talks with Anfield officials in recent days.

Jurgen Klopp yesterday batted away questions over Coutinho’s future, insisting his thoughts are only on tonight’s FA Cup match against Everton (7.55pm).
