Sony PlayStation loses crown to Nintendo Switch as PS4 news boosts console

Sony PlayStation news this week has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch has beaten first-year sales of the PS2 in Japan.

That’s some big news for Nintendo, considering that Sony’s PlayStation 2 is one of the most successful home consoles ever launched.

And it isn’t the only news revealed this week which might start worrying the likes of Microsoft and Sony.

It’s now been revealed that the Switch is now the best-selling home console in US history, in its first 10 months on sale.

That’s according to Nintendo themselves, who have seen the record of the Wii topped by their latest console.

And lets not forget just how popular the Wii proved to be worldwide.

4.8 million Switch units were sold in the United States, according to Nintendo’s internal sales figures.

“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO.

“Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”

Tackling key markets around the world is a sure sign that the Switch games list has done enough to prove its worth.

More titles will be needed to keep the momentum going, with Nintendo banking on one big aspect to keep sales going.

Multiple households are looking to buy the Nintendo Switch.

While that can happen with the PS4 and Xbox One, it’s a lot more likely with the Switch, based purely on its handheld design.

But while this is a great update for the Switch, there not alone in that regard.

PS4 news this week includes a major update on one of the console’s biggest 2018 launches.

While the PS4 games list featured a good mix of exclusives in 2017, fans will be hungry for more in 2018.

We already know that the likes of Shadow of the Colossus and Secret of Mana will be launching in February, 2018.

But the following month could also feature a very special game that will certainly help to liven up the early release cycle.

Sony has previously said that the likes of God of War, Spider-Man and Detroit: Beyond Human would launch in the first half of 2018.

And according to a series of PSN Store leaks, the God of War release date is set for March, 2018.

Several South American PSN Stores apparently had the listing up early, before they were changed back to a placeholder date.

The exact release date for God of War was reportedly listed as March 22, a date that will likely prove popular with fans.

Today also saw a new update that helps back up these latest leaks, with it being reported that the front cover of Game Informer in February featuring God of War.

While that doesn’t mean for certain that God of War will be launching in March, it does bring hope of an early release for later this year.
