Michael Schumacher ‘forgiven’ by Damon Hill as F1 legend talks of regrets with rival

The legendary rivalry between Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher defined both of their careers during the mid 1990’s – with the two battling it out both on and off the track.

The Briton was said to be furious after Schumacher turned in on his vehicle when he drove for Benetton at the Australian Grand Prix in 1994.

With just one point between them Schumacher’s move put both of their cars out of the race and secured his first world title.

Mr Hill, the 1996 World Champion, once wrote of the Formula 1 icon: “There are two things that set Michael apart from the rest of the drivers in Formula One – his sheer talent and his attitude.

“I am full of admiration for the former, but the latter leaves me cold.”

Now Mr Hill has admitted to having forgiven his former rival following his horrifying injury which shook the world of motorsports.

Schumacher hit his head in a skiing accident on December 29, 2013.

As celebrities and fans marked the anniversary of Schumacher’s accident, Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa said “Michael was my teacher, he was very nice, very kind to me.

“He gave a big opportunity to me”

Replying on Twitter, Damon Hill wrote: “He wasn’t quite so kind to me!

He added: “But I forgive him.

“Shame we never got to get to know one another better. Great shame.”

This Christmas was the fourth since Schumacher suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2013.

He was placed in a medically induced coma for six months until June 16, 2014 and has been in convalescence ever since.

Details of the sporting superstar’s injuries and condition are still not clear as the family work to protect his privacy.
