Everton 0-1 Manchester United LIVE: Express Sport brings you the latest Premier League updates from Goodison Park

71: That was a chance, a big chance. Mason Holgate plays a lovely cross over to Niasse, who guides it a yard wide when completely unmarked. Should have been 1-1.

69: Just to let you know; this is the best Manchester United have played in months and Everton are defending a 1-0 deficit.

66: Paul Pogba stings the palms of Jordan Pickford with an angled drive. He probably should have squared it to Lingard, but where’s the fun in that, eh?

63: Sam Allardyce makes a couple of bizarre substitutions. Wayne Rooney is replaced by James McCarthy, and Aaron Lennon has come on for Yannick Bolasie. Not a popular decision.

60: You can’t say it hasn’t been coming for Manchester United. They’ve stepped it up at the start of the second half while Everton have dropped deeper and deeper.

EVERTON 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED – MARTIAL

57: Manchester United have made the breakthrough, and it’s the first real piece of quality we’ve seen today.

Wayne Rooney inexplicably gives the ball away in United territory, and the rest is history. Paul Pogba picks out his fellow Frenchman Anthony Martial, who curls it beautifully beyond Jordan Pickford.

Martial has been directly involved in six goals in his last five appearances against Everton in all competitions (four goals, two assists).

56: Luke Shaw is playing very advanced down the left flank. He reaches the byline and his cross is cleared before Paul Pogba could apply the finishing touch. The Frenchman drags a near-post effort wide a few moments later. Everton. Are. Buckling.

53: Juan Mata hits the woodwork with a great shot from outside the box! It swerved from right to left and ricochet off the post and away to safety. Jordan Pickford was beaten.

51: Everton have more bodies behind the ball since the break. Perhaps Sam Allardyce thought they were a little too ambitious in the opening 45.

48: Close! Juan Mata lines one up from outside the area and Pickford tips it over for a corner, which is cleared. Marcos Rojo vies with Phil Jones for the worst shot of the day that lands somewhere in Salford.

EVERTON 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

45: We’re back up and running at Goodison Park. Neither manager has made a change. Not quite sure how Oumar Niasse is on the pitch still…

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Ed: What do you get when you cross a typical Sam Allardyce performance with a typical Mourinho away from home performance?….nothing. That’s what. Absolutely nothing.

Bob: I miss Van Gaal. At least his buses weren’t double deckers.

Tim: This comes as no surprise. It seems Mourinho doesn’t like staying at one club for too long, maybe he has his eye on a move to another club? From the look of things he’s lost interest in Manchester United already.

EVERTON 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

HT: All-square at the break. It’s not been the prettiest game but we’ve seen a fair few shots and chances. Both sides just lacking quality in the final third. It’s poised for a cracking second half…

43: Jesse Lingard is on fire at the moment. He backs himself to drive through the heart of Everton’s midfield and drags one wide. Rooney booked for a clumsy challenge on Martial.

41: Paul Pogba is the next player to see a long-range effort deflected inches wide. That’s returned with interest when Bolasie skins Matic and Rojo down the left flank before his excellent cross is cleared. The game has really opened up now.

38: David de Gea things he’s beaten as a deflected Davies effort loops over his head, but the ball bounces wide of the goal and Rojo clears.

36: The biggest cheer of the night so far is for Paul Pogba tripping over the ball…

Wayne Rooney is a lucky boy. He attempts to control Ashley William’s clearance and Herrera robs him before firing over.

33: I don’t think there’s any doubting that Yannick Bolasie has got the legs on Victor Lindelof down the flank. The only problem? There’s nobody in the box to convert his crosses.

29: United are tuning the screw and almost get their reward. Martial and Shaw combine to leave Holgate in the lurch and the full-backs cross is parried away by Pickford.

26: Phil Jones has a crack from the better part of 35-yards but it flies out of the stadium and I’ll bet it’s still travelling now. No wonder he’s not scored in six years!

23: Rojo to the rescue! Niasse bundles his way past Jones but the Argentine international makes a superb covering tackle.

20: Davies tries his luck from distance but it’s deflected over. Wayne Rooney trots over to deliver… Vlasic pounces on the loose ball but Lingard does enough to put him off.

17: Anthony Martial spoils a promising attack by blazing the ball miles over the bar. Moment of madness from the Frenchman.

14: Close! Paul Pogba does well to beat his man before sending a cutback into the area that someone alludes everyone. Could easily have been the opener.

11: Another corner for the hosts. Rooney’s taking all the set-pieces today with Sigurdsson on the bench. It’s a poor cross and United have themselves a goalkick.

Not seen a huge amount from the visitors going forward, but you wouldn’t say Everton have tested them either. Tempo has dropped.

8: Wayne Rooney’s strike is deflected wide for a corner, which Mason Holgate nods over unmarked. I notice that Manchester United left three players upfield for that set-piece. They’re fighting fire with fire.

5: Such a lively start to this one. Niasse almost catches Marcos Rojo out but David De Gea is there to collect his toe-poke.

At the other end, Jordan Pickford is off his line quickly to prevent Lingard from latching onto a ball over the top.

3: Yannick Bolasie doesn’t waste any time in settling back into the starting XI. A couple of silky skills sees him walk past Lindelof, who’s playing at right-back.

EVERTON 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

1: Aaaaand we’re off folks! I’ve got a sneaky suspicion this is going to be a classic, and I’m not just saying that to keep you reading. Or am I…?

17:29: Before KO, a minute’s applause begins, a video plays on screen and fans in the Park End hold up a mosaic to pay tribute to the Everton fans who died in 2017.

TWO-MINUTE WARNING

17:28: The two sides are emerging from the tunnel to filthy Merseyside weather now folks. It’s cold, windy and extremely wet. We’re almost underway.

DIFFERENT KIT

17:25: Updates from our reporter Jack Wilson.

Everton will wear a new one-off kit for their clash with Manchester United tonight.

The Toffees players will sport a different logo on the front of their shirts – swapping regular sponsors SportPesa for ‘Kits for Africa’.

SportPesa have partnered with Kits For Africa as part of kit donation campaign for Everton’s first fixture of 2018..

It’s hoped that with with the game broadcast live on Sky Sports, millions of football fans around the world will learn about the kit donation scheme designed to support underprivileged grassroots football teams across Africa.

SportPesa and Everton has been collecting kits donated by fans, players and members of the public at home games in December before distributing them throughout Africa.

ROONEY RETURN

17:23: The first blip of Sam Allardyce’s Everton reign – no wins in three games – has coincided with Wayne Rooney’s absence from the starting line-up through a bout of illness.

But Rooney came on for the second half at Bournemouth on Saturday and starts against former club Manchester United at Goodison Park.

Few might have imagined that Rooney would have as many Premier League goals as United’s top scorer (Lukaku) at the start of 2018, and a Rooney winner at Goodison would heap more misery on his former club.

AFTERNOON

17:10: Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Everton vs Manchester United from Goodison Park.

Draws against Leicester and Burnley either side of Christmas severely undermined United’s status as challengers to Manchester City and Saturday’s 0-0 shutout at home to Southampton means they are now sitting third in the standings.

The problems are racking up for manager Jose Mourinho, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s knee problem keeping him out for a month and Romelu Lukaku taken off on a stretcher after a nasty clash of heads with Wesley Hoedt.

Everton, who are vastly improved since the arrival of Sam Allardyce, await. Let’s get going!

EVERTON vs MANCHESTER UNITED – PREVIEW

Idrissa Gueye should feature again for Everton after hamstring trouble but Leighton Baines and Ross Barkley are still sidelined.

Boss Sam Allardyce will assess James McCarthy and Yannick Bolasie before deciding whether to start the duo – McCarthy lasted just half of the loss at Bournemouth, while Bolasie has only recently returned from a long-term knee injury.

United’s Romelu Lukaku is out with a head injury and fellow striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic faces a month out with a recurrence of a knee problem.

Ashley Young is banned after accepting a violent conduct charge. Midfielders Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini and defender Eric Bailly remain sidelined, while there are question marks over Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian.
