Nintendo Switch games SHOCK as console faces big 2018 PS4 and Xbox One test

The Nintendo Switch games list could be about to face a new threat as the fledgling console looks to cement its gains against the PS4 and Xbox One.

News coming from the hacking community this week suggests that new homebrew software is on the way.

Tech Radar are reporting that something new was shown off during a recent conference which could mean the rise of more widespread pirated games.

“A recent hacking conference in Germany saw a team of tinkerers take advantage of a quirk of the console’s off-the-shelf Nvidia Tegra chip, allowing them to use a feature that Nvidia’s own engineers and developers use to access deep-level functions of the chipset not usually accessible to the public,” the site reports.

This latest hack would reportedly require keeping the Switch at firmware version 3.0, essentially keeping it offline.

According to the latest reports physical copies of Pokken Tournament DX could be used as they include version 3.0 onboard and would also require the release of a new homebrew launcher.

Other Nintendo consoles have also seen homebrew launches, with both the 3DS and Wii U affected in the past with the practise.

Nintendo have taken extra measures with the Switch to try and avoid exploits being found before they are patched, offering rewards through White Hat incentives.

The new Switch news comes at the start of a very important year for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima believes that selling 20 million Switchs in the next fiscal year, is possible.

Speaking on the subject, as well as the Nintendo Switch’s current successes, Kimishima told Kyoto Shimbun: “It was a bigger hit than we were hoping.

“The unique ability to play it as a home console, but also bring it out with you, was a hit feature.”

Key areas Nintendo are looking to boost in the future is digital content sales, meaning “an abundance of digital content” to bolster the Switch’s lifespan.

And if Nintendo really are hoping to sell such a large amount in the console’s second fiscal year, it would back the recent rumours that the new Pokemon RPG could be arriving near the end of 2018.

Stemming from a report sourced in China, it appears that Pokemon on Nintendo Switch could be arriving in December 2018, or early 2019.

That’s a long wait for fans, which could have an even bigger effect if it misses next year’s important holiday sales window.

A new Yoshi and Kirby Star Allies game is also in the works for 2018, however, neither of these will be able to live up to the hype that Pokemon can create.

If Nintendo can squeak out the new Pokemon RPG on Switch in 2018, it would definitely prove a huge boon to the console.

This would serve as another great exclusive for the Switch, from a franchise that won’t be available on either Sony’s PS4 or Microsoft’s Xbox One.
