PrinceHarry will miss the royal family’s traditional Boxing Day shoot to avoid upsetting his animal-loving fiancee Meghan Markle, according to reports.

The tradition, which Prince Harry, 33, first took part in 21 years ago when he was 12, takes place on the Sandringham estate and gamekeepers there are said to be surprised by the decision.

Harry’s father Prince Charles and his brother Prince William are believed to be still taking part in the event on the 20,000 acre grounds in Norfolk.

The Queen addressed the nation yesterday in her annual Christmas day speech.

Her Majesty spoke around the theme of “home” this year, and said: “We think of our homes as places of warmth, familiarity and love…there is a timeless simplicity to the pull of home.”

Prince Philip was also referenced, with his wife speaking in front of photographs of the couple on her desk.

And perhaps the biggest event of the year for the Royal Family in 2017 did get a mention – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement.

Speaking about their impending wedding, the Queen said she was “looking forward to welcoming new members into the family next year”.

This was also a reference to Kate and William’s third child, due in April 2018.

Prince Harry, 33, and Meghan Markle, 36, announced their engagement on Monday 27 November after dating for sixteen months and preparations for their wedding on May 19 next year are well underway.

As well as releasing official photographs to mark their engagement last week, their wedding date and wedding venue – St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle – have been revealed.

And breaking from royal tradition that someone must be married into the royal family to be invited to take part in celebrations, Meghan spent yesterday, Christmas Day, by her prince’s side.

Walking in between Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of CambridgePrince William, 35, and Kate Middleton, 35, she joined the royal family as they walked to Sandringham church for the Christmas Day service.

Showing off her style credentials, Meghan wore a sleek camel coat which was belted tight around her waist.

The royal family are renowned for their lavish headwear, and for this occasion, Meghan topped off her look with a brown hat which featured twist details to the side.

But what did royal fans make of Harry’s fiancee’s headwear?

Some thought Meghan may have had help from other members of the royal family.

One person on Twitter tweeted: “Did Princess Beatrice tell Meghan where to buy a hat? #Badhatday #MeghanAndHarry #MeghanMarkle.”

Others commended Meghan’s ability to step up on the fashion front, proving she would fit right in to the family.

Another person tweeted: “Meghan marble is looking too cute these days! I’m looking forward to her amazing royal-grade fashion. She’s already begun the slayage.”

Kate Middleton has also made her mark in the world of royal fashion – so what did she wear to yesterday’s Christmas Day church service
