eBay: Rare 2p coin is selling for £14000 – can YOU spot the unusual print detail?

Rare coins, believed to be worth a mint to collectors have been selling for huge sums on eBay

Among rare limited edition 50ps and £2 coins is a 2p with an unusual print detail.

Hundreds of the 2ps are being auctioned hoping to make eBay sellers a buck or two.

So check your change now, as a 2p hiding in your wallet could make you some healthy profit.

The 2p selling for £14,000 is different to many others because of the writing it has printed on it.

The coins description on the listing reads: “Extremely Rare 1971 2p New Pence Coin.”

After British currency went decimal in 1971, all 2p coins in the UK had ‘New Pence’ written on them.

In 1982, the Royal Mint decided to replace ‘New Pence’ with Two Pence’.

Unlike many of the Beatrix Potter coins, the Peter Rabbit 50p is still available to buy on The Royal Mint website, for the large sum of £120.

But the seller reckoned there was something special about the particular coin they were selling.

In the description on eBay they described the coin as “very rare”.

They added: “This coin has a double print error so the print makes it look like all black outline has been printed again just above the original outline.

“So he has double effect on the eyes, soles, coat, collar, etc.”
