Michael Schumacher latest: How cruel scammers are taking advantage of F1 star

This Christmas is the fourth since Michael Schumacher suffered a traumatic brain injury in a skiing accident on December 29, 2013.

He was placed in a medically induced coma for six months until June 16, 2014 and has been in convalescence ever since.

Details of the sporting superstar’s injuries and condition are still not clear as the family work to protect his privacy.

But now sick scammers are making quick cash by mocking up fake videos of the incident that put the formula one hero in a coma.

Videos purporting to show the moments before Mr Schumacher’s horrific skiing accident have racked up thousands of views – despite no footage of the event existing.

And through streaming networks like youtube, the uploaders are able to rake in advertising funds from the viral clips.

It comes after a family friend revealed Mr Schumacher’s family are still hoping for a “medical miracle” as the F1 legend recovers from his injuries.

The driver is reportedly receiving £115,000-a-week treatment following a brain injury sustained in the skiing accident and is said to be doing “well in the circumstances”. He came out of his coma in 2014, and then moved from hospital to his home in Lake Geneva where he receives constant care from a team of 15 physicians and nurses.

The news has given hope the former champion’s condition may improve after years of treatment following the 2013 accident.

His wife Corinna Betschi and children Mick and Gina-Maria are said to be hopeful.

A family friend said: “Corinna and the children hope to this day that a medical miracle happens.”

The German driver’s family rarely speak publicly about his condition but his team were forced to deny claims that he was able to talk after they appeared in the German press.
