Samsung’s Galaxy S9 could be just weeks away from being officially unveiled.
Rumours suggest this next generation device will get its grand unveiling at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
This massive show opens its doors on February 26, meaning the S9 could be here before spring 2018.
With a launch date looming the rumours are coming thick fast with this device expected to be faster and more powerful than any of its predecessors.
Samsung has already revealed it’s started production its new processor and Qualcomm has also revealed its new Snapdragon 845 chip – a likely processor for the S9 – which offers unrivalled performance.
Improved battery life, brighter display and faster charging could also be included along with improved facial recognition which will unlock the device with a quick glance at the screen.
Most of these rumours are pure speculation but Samsung may have just given us an early glimpse at two big new features coming to the S9.
The Korean technology firm has just revealed its new mid-range Galaxy A8 which will go on sale in April 2018.
This device offers flagship specs with a price that’s expected to be much lower than Samsung’s current top-end smartphones.
And it also includes two interesting new additions which are likely to appear in more Galaxy devices in the future.
Firstly the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner has been moved to below the camera.
Samsung has come under huge criticism for placing this vital sensor alongside the lens on the S8 and this new position on the A8 makes far more sense – as it’s easier to reach and means users are less likely to leave mucky fingerprints on the lens.
Samsung is expected to keep its rear scanner on the S9 and placing it below the camera looks almost certain.
The best new feature on the A8 is probably the most exciting if you’re planning to buy the Galaxy S9.
On the front of the A8 device, Samsung has place a dual-lens selfie camera which will give users the ability to take a number of different shots.
Along with close-up and wide-angle photos the A8 can also add DSLR style depth of field to selfies with the bokeh effect even able to be changed once the image is taken.
Some devices can already produce depth effect images with their front-facing cameras but this is often performed via software and not dual-lens hardware.
If Samsung does include this feature on the S9 it could give it the edge of some of its flagship rivals including the iPhone X and Google Pixel 2.
