Man City transfer news: Pep Guardiola orders £160m January transfer spree

Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to 13 points after their 4-0 win over Bournemouth yesterday.

Two goals from Sergio Aguero and efforts from Raheem Sterling and Danilo sent the Cherries packing at the Etihad.

But the Daily Star on Sunday say Guardiola wants to spend another £160m at City on Alexis Sanchez, Virgil van Dijk and Sergio Busquets.

Sanchez is out of contract at Arsenal in the summer and could be sold in January, while Van Dijk appears to be moving closer to Liverpool.

Guardiola wants a reunion with Barcelona midfielder Busquets in Manchester although may have to settle for a realistic targets Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred or Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl.

Guardiola has spent heavily since taking over at Manchester City in the summer of 2016, nearly hitting £175m in his first season in charge.

Last summer the 46-year-old topped that with a £200m outlay on five players.

And he wants to continue the theme in the New Year but again insisted after Aguero’s brace against Bournemouth that he will not be sold.

“I was a player and I understand the players [who] are subbed, they are sad,” Pep Guardiola said.

“Our job is to try to search for something to make us win. I try to have the best relations as possible with players. We are together and I understand when they are upset but sometimes I think [Gabriel] Jesus deserves to play, too.

“What is important is the respect between each other. They have an amazing relationship between them, the locker room – it’s a dream to go there. That’s the most important thing.

“I understand the feelings but I respect Sergio, what he has done, what he will do in the future. He’s a legend. He will decide everything about his life, his future, I’m so happy to have him here.

“He is a special player, a legend and I am so happy when he plays good and he is scoring goals. I know the players who normally don’t play are upset, but all the team deserve to play.”
