TWITTER ROUND-UP

Gonzo: Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tom Davies are getting too hesitant and narrow visioned. How did they not see the runs of Lennon and Gylfi? Unbelievable.

Rahman: As expected, Big Sam’s Everton are so organised. The game needs Cesc Fabregas quickly.

Scott: This game would be completely different if Morata didn’t get booked the other day! Chelsea spending tons of time in Everton’s half but just make the breakthrough.

EVERTON 0-0 CHELSEA

HT:  And that was the last chance of the half. Everton weathered the early storm and created one or two decent opportunities. All to play for.

46: Golden opportunity spurned! Calvert-Lewin outmuscles Christensen and drives towards goal. He decides to try and shoot through two bodies instead of laying it off to the unmarked Sigurdsson, and Chelsea clear.

44: Not sure if you guys are bothered with that old continental football, but Luis Suarez rounds off a superb free-flowing move to send Barcelona ahead in this afternoon’s El Clasico.

42: A decent period of possession results in Marcos Alonso clearing a looping cross from Kenny. It’s all gone very quiet inside Goodison Park as we approach the break.

39: Chelsea catch Everton on the break and Pedro draws a fabulous save from Jordan Pickford. Christensen nods the resulting corner wide.

37: Tom Davies strides forward and has acres of space in front of him, but he’s scuffed it wide. At least it’s a shot I suppose.

34: Touch of agitation setting in for Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. He’s more animated than usual as he barks orders at Marcos Alonso down the touchline. Bet the Spaniard can’t wait to get on the other side of the pitch!

31: Sam Allardyce’s sides stay in games. It’s as simple as that. It’s not been a great watch for the Everton faithful, but 0-0 after 30 minutes is solid start.

28: Chelsea are playing some really nice stuff, but haven’t created too many opportunities to trouble Jordan Pickford.

25: Danger! Martina gives a needless free-kick away on the edge of the box and receives a booking for his troubles. Marcos Alonso and Willian standing over it… nope. The Brazilian sweeps it high and wide.

22: Gueye looks to release Lennon with a straight ball over the top but it has too much on it. Moses does the same down the right flank but his cross alludes everyone.

19: Marcos Alonso is basically a centre-forward for Chelsea. He’s barely been inside his own half and is providing some important height in the box for the visitors.

16: Chelsea are probing from right to left trying to find a way through Everton’s back six! Pickford parries Hazard’s fierce cross out to Kante, who slices it miles wide.

15: Phil Jagielka: Is the first Premier League player to complete two clearances off the line in the same match since April (Ross Barkley vs Burnley). Spooky.

13: Close! Two clearances off the line in quick succession from Phil Jagielka. The first was from Bakayoko, the second from Willian’s follow-up.

Calvert-Lewin gets a yellow for going over the top. Bit harsh in my humble opinion.

10: Azpilicueta makes an important block to deny Sigurdsson, who attempted to turn Lennon’s cross goalwards.

9: Pedro has the opening shot of the afternoon. Hazard pressures Everton into giving the ball away deep in their half and Pedro guides his effort wide.

6: Any prospect of Sam Allardyce playing a more expansive style of football is looking as bleak as the Merseyside fog folks. It’s being hoofed to Dominic Calvert-Lewin to chase, with little success in the opening stages.

3: Good start from the visitors. Moses bends a cross into the six-yard box but Hazard couldn’t connect and Alonso pings it into the side-netting.

1: We’re underway folks. Will we see more Christmas mayhem or will Sam Allardyce engineer a cosy win over the Premier League champions? Let’s find out.

TRANSFER LINE…

12:20: Have I got time for a quick transfer line? I’m going to tell you anyway.

Chelsea are favourites to sign AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci.

Bonucci is a player that is expected to be in high-demand in the January transfer window, with a host of European clubs eyeing up a move for the Italian.

Chelsea are the current front-runners at 2/1 to clinch the defender’s signature, while league leaders Manchester City follow closely behind at 3/1.

RECORD?

12:15: Sam Allardyce has won his last two Premier League meetings with Chelsea – he could become the first manager to beat them in the competition with five different clubs.

STOP LAUGHING, LYNN! YOU’RE LAUGHING AT WEATHER

12:10:  *Doffs cap at other Alan Partridge fans*

Anyway, that was just a way of me letting you know that it’s still ridiculously foggy on Merseyside. The Goodison floodlights are on, and don’t look like being switched off anytime soon.

ROSS BARKLEY…

12:05: The door is always open for Ross Barkley, according to Everton manager Sam Allardyce.

Barkley, who took part in a behind-closed-doors squad match during the week, rejected a new contract last summer and there has been talk of a possible fresh bid from Chelsea in January.

“It’s in Ross’ hands,” Allardyce said. “He knows the door is always open if he wants to talk about staying, it’s never going to be the case where the door is going to be shut. Then what happens in January, who knows?”

Caspar: Jamie Redknapp looking unbelievably hungover on Sky Sports 1.

WINTER BREAK?

11:50: Antonio Conte has continued his weekly protest about the lack of a winter break. He’s persistent, I’ll give him that.

This is Conte’s second season at Chelsea and, having experienced both a winter break in Italy and no hiatus here, he called for a re-think to aid English teams’ Champions League chances.

“If I must be honest, I think that it’s right to play during the Christmas period but, at the same time, after the Christmas period you must have a break,” Conte said.

“From November, you play every three days until the end of January. Especially if you go through in all the competitions. In February, when the Champions League restarts, you arrive very tired.

“The players need a bit of time to recover. One week to recover, and then restart. You have to try to put every team in the best situation to be competitive in all competitions.”

I’m a big fan of the doing better in Europe part, but I’m fully against having to talk to your family because there’s no football on TV…

TEAM NEWS – CHELSEA

11:45: What does Michy Batshuayi have to do to start!? He’s left on the bench by Antonio Conte despite Alvaro Morata’s suspension.

Just the one change for Chelsea from the win over Southampton. Antonio Rudiger replaces Gary Cahill.

TEAM NEWS – EVERTON

11:40: Right, let’s start with Sam Allardyce’s side. Everton have made three enforced changes from the team who beat Swansea 3-1 on Monday night.

Wayne Rooney has failed to recover from a bout of flu and sits this one out with Tom Davies stepping into the side.

Mason Holgate (ill) and Ashley Williams (ill) drop to the bench as Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka are handed a recall.

Yannick Bolasie makes his long-awaited return from injury, and could make an impact from the bench.

STAT OF THE DAY

11:35: Everton have lost their last three Premier League games against Chelsea by an aggregate score of 0-10, losing 2-0 in the reverse fixture in August this season.

EVERTON vs CHELSEA

11:30: Ouch! The flu has seen Wayne Rooney completely omitted from the matchday squad. Strong starting XI for the visitors with Eden Hazard in the ‘false 9’ role.

Subs: Robles, Williams, Bolasie, Ramirez, Niasse, Holgate, Baningime.

MAN FLU: THE DEADLIEST VIRUS ON PLANET EARTH…

11:28: Some worrying news coming from the Everton camp. Apparently Wayne Rooney, Mason Holgate and Ashley Williams have been suffering with flu this week.

We’ll see if they’ve recovered in a few moments when the line-ups are released.

With just 37 hours until Christmas Day, men across the nation can officially begin their shopping.

Good luck lads, Godspeed!

I’ll be here for you while you whizz around the shops looking for an over-priced candle for mum, or bath salts that are more likely to decompose before being used.

EVERTON vs CHELSEA – PREVIEW

Yannick Bolasie is poised to return to the Everton squad for the first time in more than a year for today’s clash with Chelsea.

Toffees boss Sam Allardyce plans to put Bolasie on the bench and hopefully give him a run-out after the winger finally recovered from his knee injury.

James McCarthy and Ross Barkley are nearing comebacks and could be available in the new year.

Striker Alvaro Morata is suspended but left wing-back Marcos Alonso is back from a ban.

Morata’s absence, for a fifth booking of the season, means Eden Hazard is likely to be deployed as a ‘false nine’.

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte, who is still without Charly Musonda (groin) and David Luiz (knee), is likely to revert to his first-choice line-up after making eight changes against Bournemouth on Wednesday.
