Lewis Hamilton to QUIT F1? Mercedes chief opens up on world champion

Toto Wolff has revealed the F1 champion is still mulling things over – and has other ideas to consider.

Hamilton won his fourth Formula One world championship this season, edging him closer to the record of seven by Michael Schumacher.

The 32-year-old’s contract ends at the end of the 2018 season and talks are underway about a new deal which could make him the highest paid driver on the grid.

But Hamilton also has a passion for fashion and music.

And when asked if beating Schumacher’s achievements is something Hamilton wants to do, Wolff was unable to give any guarantee the British driver would stay beyond 2019.

He told the BBC: “Of course he has it in him to be the very best and outscore all the results.

“But equally he is free spirit. He wants to keep his options open whether he stays a racing driver in 2019 or becomes a fashion entrepreneur.

“It would be a massive hit [if he left].

“But you move on and the next generation gets a chance.

“Maybe among the kids under the radar there is someone that could be following in his footsteps.

“Things happen but for him, he sees these records but I’m not sure he wants to commit himself for another four or five seasons in order to outscore Schumacher.”
