CONFIRMED: Donald Trump wall WILL be built… in IRELAND

But rather than the mooted border fence along America’s border with Mexico, the US president has finally gained approval for a wall on the other side of the Atlantic.

The wall will be built along a -owned golf course in Doonbeg, County Clare, a rural area in the west of

And rather than keep out Mexican migrants, the wall will keep the famously rough Atlantic Ocean from eroding the coast at Trump International Golf Links and Hotel.

This week Mr Trump’s application for a sea wall was finally approved after a protracted battle with critics.

Last year Mr Trump’s firm withdrew plans for a large rock wall and instead applied for a scaled-down barrier, which has now been approved.

Even after the changes, which will see walls created using sand and sheeting piling, environmental activists opposed the project.

The entire coastal defence will stretch more than 250 metres along the coast.

An open letter in the local newspaper the Clare Champion from four environmental experts said after the revised plans were revealed: “We believe that the public may not be aware that, in effect, the proposed work at Doonbeg Golf course project hasn’t really changed and still involves beach-destroying seawalls.”

Clare County Council, who approved the project, said: “Clare County Council has today issued a decision to grant permission for the development of coastal erosion management works at, and adjacent to, Carrowmore Dunes, White Strand, Doughmore Bay and Trump International Golf Links and Hotel, Doonbeg, County Clare.”

Joe Russell, general manager of Trump’s local development firm, said: “This decision demonstrates the Council’s commitment to support local business and protect the economic future of the region.

“Trump Doonbeg will continue to engage with all stakeholders throughout the construction process.”

The Irish Green Party are considering appealing against the decision.
