Nintendo Switch could potentially overtake the PS4 by the end of next year.
The latest Nintendo Switch sales stats (via Chris Scullion) indicate that the console has sold 2.9 million units in its native Japan.
That’s compared to 3.3 million lifetime Wii U sales and 5.7 million PS4 sales.
At this rate, the Nintendo Switch could overtake the Wii U by the end of this year and the PS4 sometime in 2018.
That’s based on current sales trends, and the assumption that the Nintendo Switch will be well stocked throughout the year.
And it shouldn’t come as any surprise when you look at the Nintendo Switch games list.

The news comes as Nintendo Switch and Xbox One X beat Sony’s PlayStation 4 in this key category.
Google has revealed the biggest searches of the year, and it’s good news for Nintendo and Microsoft.
The consumer tech category was dominated by the Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone X at one and two.
This is followed by the Nintendo Switch at three, the Samsung Galaxy 8 at four and the Xbox One X at five.
The Sony PlayStation 4, on the other hand, is nowhere to be seen in a top ten that’s full of smartphones.
Worldwide Nintendo Switch sales figures were recently revealed by Nintendo.
Despite stock shortages, the Nintendo Switch has sold a staggering 10 million units.
That’s almost as many as the Wii U sold in its entire lifetime. The Switch is expected to shift 14 million by the end of the financial year, which is more than the 13.56 million units the Wii U sold.
Speaking about the news, Nintendo of Europe President Satoru Shibata said: “We are thrilled that fans all across Europe and around the world are enjoying the gameplay experiences that only Nintendo Switch can offer, whether it be the newest adventures with Super Mario and Link, or unique games such as 1-2-Switch, where players look at each other and not the screen.”
