69: That’s all from Zlatan for this evening. The striker is replaced by Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The hosts also make a substitution, with Taylor on for Magnusson.

66: Sergio Romero is the most relieved man inside Ashton Gate. He comes miles off his line to punch a Magnusson throw, but he’s beaten by Flint. The defender narrowly misses the target.

63: At what point does Jose Mourinho turn to Mkhitaryan? The Portuguese seems determined not to play the winger, but a bit more creativity is needed for the visitors.

60: Jose Mourinho makes the first change. Romelu Lukaku replaces Daley Blind. I think he went straight down the tunnel, so that MIGHT be an injury for the Dutchman.

58: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored his first Manchester United goal since April (vs Sunderland); 255 days ago.

BRISTOL CITY 1-1 MANCHESTER UNITED – ZLATAN

57: Zlatan Ibrahimovic comes up with the goods!

It’s been eight months to the day since the Swede started a match for Manchester United, and he’s returned in style by smashing a low free-kick through the wall and beyond Steele.

Quality 30 minutes coming up folks!

56: This guy can’t be stopped! Bryan has another attempt on goal, but his low shot is saved by Romero.

Incidentally, Bryan has scored three goals in his last four games in all competitions for Bristol City, as many as he had in his previous 105 for the Robins.

BRISTOL CITY 1-0 MANCHESTER UNITED – BRYAN

52: What a hit!

The Championship side area ahead with an absolute peach of a goal from Joe Bryan. The full-back plays a neat one-two with Pack before continuing his run down the left flank, and slamming a pin-point thunderbolt past Sergio Romero into the corner.

Unbelievable scenes, unbelievable noise, unbelievable GIF of Bryan wearing a Christmas hat on City’s Twitter account…

51: Good move. Wright finds Reid inside the box but his shot ripples the side-netting.

50: United have shown more purpose since the break. Rashford has another pop from an identical position and Steele is forced into a good save.

49: Paterson picks up the first yellow card of the game, booked for a challenge on Pogba. Rashford goes for goal but his strike hits the only play in City’s wall.

48: It’s still 1-0 over at Stamford Bridge. Antonio Conte has brought on Eden Hazard to try and put the game beyond Bournemouth’s reach.

BRISTOL CITY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

45: We’re back underway folks. No changes for either side as Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues talking to the referee about something. I highly doubt Mike Dean will be taking much notice.

HT: “The pitch is a little dry so it doesn’t suit Paul Pogba,” says Phil Neville on Sky Sports. I’ll just leave that there and let the internet do the rest.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Emilia: Disappointing half for Manchester United. We lacked urgency. Hopefully we can sort it out after the break.

Adam: Getting worried Marcus Rashford has caught Paul Pogba’s woodwork curse from last season.

Wish: Heard it all now… Our fickle Twitter fans now slagging Zlatan off. Who are these muppets! Expect every player to perform like a FIFA game.

BRISTOL CITY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

HT: So far so good for Lee Johnson’s side, who’ve arguably had the better of their Premier League opponents.

The Red Devils might count themselves a little unlucky having seen Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimovic strike the woodwork.

It’s nicely poised here at Ashton Gate.

44: Should be 1-0 Bristol City. The ball breaks for Smith, who dribbles his way into the box but delays the shot allowing Blind to make a last-ditch tackle. Just hit it, son!

42: We have seen Zlatan now because he’s just missed a very decent chance. Brownhill’s headed clearance falls to the Swede, who skews his volley wide.

40: Not seen much from Zlatan Ibrahimovic on his first start since April. He’s not interested in chasing or pressurising the Bristol City defence, but comes alive when Paul Pogba has the ball at his feet.

37: It appears Bristol City have a long-throw specialists in their ranks. Magnusson launches a Rory Delap-esque throw into the six-yard box but Romero punches clear.

CHELSEA 1-0 BOURNEMOUTH

HT: Willian’s early goal separates the two Premier League sides at Stamford Bridge.

34: Save! Magnusson charges ahead of Rashford and fizzes a half-volley that Romero manages to parry away for a corner. Bristol City are really turning the screw now!

31: Haha! Good effort son. Flint deliberately bundles into Romero as he’s preparing to distribute  and pokes the ball home from close range.

The City supporters celebrate but Mike Dean quickly blows his whistle for a foul. Rightly so.

28: Bristol’s defence and midfield aren’t signing from the same hymn sheet. The midfield are pressing but the defence are sitting back and that’s giving United acres of space in the final third. Paul Pogba drives forward and slams one past the post.

25: Manchester United strike the woodwork for the second time this evening! Marcus Rashford makes himself a few yards before seeing a low thunderbolt slam against the right-hand post.

23: Sergio Romero and Matteo Darmian struggle to deal with Bobby Reid inside the area. The City forward is sticking to them like glue from every set-piece and referee Mike Dean is giving him the benefit of the doubt.

A corner is swung into the penalty area but Luke Shaw was there to clear the danger.

20: McTominay collects Martial’s pass and volleys miles over the bar. You sense the Frenchman will be heavily involved tonight. He’s finding the space and making the best runs so far.

17: Bristol City certainly won’t die wondering. They’re giving it a proper go and are attacking at every opportunity. Pack is a little too ambitious and plays a long pass straight out of play, and by ambitious, I actually mean dreadful.

14: Woodwork! Bristol City breathe a sigh of relief as Zlatan Ibrahimovic guides Anthony Martial’s against the bar and away to safety. That was United’s first chance of the match.

11: Manchester United aren’t doing themselves any favours. They keep throwing possession away in the middle of the park and that’s giving the hosts an extra spring in their step.

8: Paul Pogba concedes a free-kick after Pack pinched it off him with a well-timed tackle. Brownhill strikes but it’s straight at Romero, who tips it over.

5: I understand this has nothing to do with tonight’s match, but Swansea have sacked manager Paul Clement. I always feel bad for managers when that happens just before Christmas. Check the website for the full story.

3: It’s absolutely deafening here, and it looked like getting louder when Paterson collected the ball just outside the ManchesterUnited penalty area, but Lindelof cleared the danger.

BRISTOL CITY 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

1: And we’re off folks! Will we have a magical upset at Ashton Gate, or will Jose Mourinho’s side join Manchester City and Arsenal in the semi-final draw?

Incidentally, the bottle of wine that Lee Johnson bought to drink with Jose Mourinho cost £450!

CHELSEA 1-0 BOURNEMOUTH – WILLIAN

11: It didn’t take long for Antonio Conte’s side to break Bournemouth down. Brazilian star Willian converts Cesc Fabregas’ cross.

CAUSAL JOSE

19:55: Jose Mourinho is looking remarkably relaxed this evening. He’s been laughing and joking with Jesse Lingard during the warm up.

In his pre-match interview, he said: “We are the holders but I am not sure we are the favourites. They are here after knocking out three Premier League teams, are in an amazing position in Championship, playing at home and they will fight for the result. We will do the same.”

Not favourites against Bristol City? Whatever you say, Jose.

UPSET ON THE CARDS

19:52: Bristol City have the potential to cause Manchester United problems at set pieces, says Danny Higginbotham.

Higginbotham has watched Lee Johnson’s side live this season and believes their physical nature is one key strength United boss Jose Mourinho must be wary of.

“The potential of this football club is absolutely immense. It will be a great atmosphere this evening, it will be a sell-out,” Higginbotham told Sky Sports News.

“I was here a couple of weeks ago when they played Middlesbrough and it was very impressive. They will give a good account of themselves, they’re a good team, they can be a physical team when needs be.

“Set-pieces they are very strong on, obviously we have seen Manchester United in recent weeks conceding a few from set-pieces.”

RECORD

19:48: Bristol City are expecting just shy of 27,000 tonight. That’ll be the largest crowd at Ashton Gate since 1979 – which was last time they played against Manchester United in the Old First Division!

CHELSEA 0-0 BOURNEMOUTH

1: We’re underway at Stamford Bridge folks. I’ll keep you updated with all the goals, news and highlights throughout the night.

PROGRAMME. ONLY £4…

19:43: The Bristol City media department have outdone themselves.

They’ve compiled an 84-page programme for tonight’s clash – which is roughly the same length as my university dissertation.

I think I know which one I’d rather read…

OH MKHI, YOU’RE NOT FINE…

19:40: Interesting to see Henrikh Mkhitaryan back in the Manchester United side.

The Armenian playmaker has been left out of eight of the last nine squads with a January move a distinct possibility.

Not sure what being benched tonight says about his future at Old Trafford though.

BYOB… ACTUALLY, DON’T!

19:35: Lee Johnson has been doing his research – mainly on the kind of wine Jose Mourinho enjoys!

I like the way this guy thinks.

The Bristol City boss revealed he had ordered a “very expensive” bottle of wine he hoped to share with the Portuguese.

“He’s world-class, and someone I have studied of course,” Johnson said.

“I’ve ordered in a very expensive bottle of wine – I’ve had to raid my little girl’s piggy bank, so I’ll be really disappointed if he doesn’t come in and at least taste it! It has to be poured specially, it is that good.”

Erm, just give me half a bottle of Blue Nun, please…

PLANE DRAMA

19:30: Don’t you just hate it when your private jet is diverted?

That’s exactly what happened to Manchester United, who were forced to land in Cardiff and take the bus to Bristol because of foggy weather conditions.

I don’t know how they cope…

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Tommy: I live near Bristol and the local news has had Bristol City vs Manchester United as the main story for three days now! Gives you some idea how special it is for these clubs to play the biggest club in the world.

Alan: The Carabao Cup is probably the worst trophy available to us this season but it is a trophy nonetheless. Good chance of getting to the SF’s tonight but we can’t afford to take Bristol City lightly.

Sam: Bristol City will beat Man United. Mark. My. Words.

CHELSEA vs BOURNEMOUTH

19:15: Bournemouth have never won a major trophy, and they are two games away from the final, but Eddie Howe has rotated anyway! Antonio Conte makes eight changes with 17-year-old Ethan Ampadu making his second start for the Premier League champions. Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata are on the bench.

Chelsea XI: Caballero, Rudiger, Ampadu, Cahill, Zappacosta, Drinkwater, Fabregas, Kenedy, Willian, Pedro, Batshuayi.

Subs: Eduardo, Clarke-Salter, Sterling, Bakayoko, Hazard, Hudson-Odoi, Morata.

Bournemouth XI: Boruc, Smith, Francis, Cook, Simpson, Surman, Arter, Gosling, Mousset, Fraser, Defoe.

Subs: Ramsdale, Ake, Cook, Hyndman, Ibe, Pugh, Wilson.

TEAM NEWS – MANCHESTER UNITED

19:10: Jose Mourinho has made 10 changes from the side who beat West Brom on Sunday. Marcus Rashford is the only survivor.

There’s a first start for Zlatan Ibrahimovic since a serious knee injury back in April. His partner in crime, Paul Pogba, also returns after a three-match suspension.

Despite all these changes, Henrik Mkhitaryan has to settle for a spot on the bench.

TEAM NEWS – BRISTOL CITY

19:05: Analysis from our reporter Alex Harris.

Bristol City are as long as 11/2 with some bookmakers to beat Manchester United… but they could upset the odds tonight.

Lee Johnson’s side are flying high in the Championship having won their last four in a row.

They play like a bunch of mates having the time of their lives and that could be enough to beat Jose Mourinho’s all-stars.

Bobby Reid – a converted forward – is the big threat to United with 11 goals to his name this season.

Giant defender Aden Flint could cause havoc at set-pieces – he’s got six goals – while Everton and Newcastle target Joe Bryan will cause problems down the left.

BRISTOL CITY vs MANCHESTER UNITED

WHAT’S ON?!

18:58: Just the two fixtures on the agenda this evening folks.

EVENING

18:50: Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Bristol City vs Manchester United from Ashton Gate.

Arsenal and Manchester City have already booked their places in tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final draw.

But who will be joining them?

Manchester United and Chelsea are obviously heavy favourites to progress, but Bristol City and Bournemouth aren’t strangers to an upset.

I think we all remember the Robins winning an FA Cup third-round replay at Anfield in 1994.

Might be showing my age there…

Anyway, I think we’ve got a couple of Christmas crackers on our hands. Let’s get going!

BRISTOL CITY vs MANCHESTER UNITED – PREVIEW

Right-back Antonio Valencia is doubtful for Manchester United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final at Bristol City with a hamstring injury.

Midfielder Paul Pogba is available again after suspension and forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be recalled as manager Jose Mourinho considers making changes against the Championship club.

Midfielders Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, and defender Eric Bailly remain on the sidelines.

CHELEA vs BOURNEMOUTH – PREVIEW

Chelsea left wing-back Marcos Alonso is suspended for tonight’s Carabao Cup clash with Bournemouth, when Antonio Conte plans to give his peripheral players a chance.

Alonso picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Southampton and could be replaced by Kenedy, who played in the prior two rounds in the competition.

Ethan Ampadu could start alongside the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi, while Callum Hudson-Odoi and Dujon Sterling could also be involved, but Charly Musonda (groin) and David Luiz (knee) are out.
