The best town to live in the UK has been revealed – do you live here?

The best UK town has been revealed to be Hart in Hampshire for the fifth year in a row, according to Halifax bank. 

Hart is in Fleet, and house prices in August 2017 averaged £774,931. Hart is the least deprived area in England, according to the Indices of Deprivation 2015.

The town also boasts very low levels of crime and high earnings compared to the rest of the country.

The the town is even sunnier than most parts of the UK, with 32.5 hours per week of sunshine, versus the national average of 29.7 hours.

Seventeen of the best places to live, according to the bank, are in the South East of England.

Second on the list, however, is the Orkney Islands in Scotland.

The Midlands put in a fair showing, including Rutland in the East Midlands and Wychavon in the West Midlands. 

Next up were Winchester, Wokingham and Waverly in the South East.

However, the title of best place to live in the UK is contested. 

Brighton was named the happiest place in the UK in a nationwide survey into the satisfaction of the nation.

The town beat competition from Leicester and Portsmouth to take the top spot.

The best value town in the UK for house prices has been revealed by Zoopla to be Feltham, in Greater London.

In February Sarah Beeny with Channel 4 claimed South Ribble is the best place to live in the UK

South Ribble, an area of Lancaster just below Preston, took the prize. The district has a population of 109,700.

“South Ribble may not be the best known place in Britain but perhaps it deserves to be,” Sarah Beeny said on the show.

“I’ve been really stuck by how optimistic it is for the future and how happy people are,” the presenter added.
